Hi guys need some help here,
I have a problem with my headlights dimming here is what i am running.... 500Wrms response Precision amplifier (500Wrms @ 4 ohms) Running my MB Quart 350Wrms sub I have 4g wire from the batt to a splitter into two 8g only running 1 amp atm front speakers are standard running off a JVC headunit I am also having trouble tuning the sub amp because i can't turn up the headunit all the way. Here is how it is setup. And here is a video of the voltages Cheers for any help guys! Last edited by Falcon_92_EB on Wed Jul 08, 2015 10:56 pm, edited 3 times in total. |

This can be a cause due to light dimming. I'm running an 800WRMS monoblock and 400WRMS 4 channel amp, at full volume, about 3/4 gain and I get no light dimmings. I cleaned all the main earth cables making sure they are grounded properly to chassis and block. Also negative terminal needs to be nice and clean. My power only reads 13.5volts while engine running (I think alternator is screwed a little), with system on full volume, I could see as much as 1V drop at every bass kick. So your video doesn't seem much of a voltage drop IMO...but I ain't much of an expert when it comes to voltage drops.

With my old sterio I had a lot of voltage drop and headlight dimming.
The problem was the battery. It was old and too small for running a large system. What size and how old is your battery? After I replaced my battery with a new decent brand I had no problems with voltage drop becides the usual 1v drop on a 40hrz sweep. Was running 800wrms mono and 400wrms 4 channel. Also if you are only running 1 amp run the 4 gauge straight into the amp. And read a few amp tuning tutorials. You don't need the headunit to turn all the way up to tune it.... |

IMO i think you need a capacitor.
A capicitor will hold an immense amount of energy and act as a buffer between your battery and the amp. When the amp requires a large burst of energy instead of hitting the battery and your whole electrical system it draws that energy from the capacitor. I put one in mine and my lights barely dim anymore at full volume. Jaycar and altronics do them and most car stereo shops i guess.

It can be fixed with just the capacitor, but in the end the car is still running with a possible bad earth some where which affects the whole car...not just the sound system.

I had the same problem with the capacitor there (didnt you watch the video?)
Watch my build thread over the next couple of days i will update it on what i am doing to combat the voltage drops. |

Here we go with the capacitor debate again
There are two schools of thought. 1: They are a bandaid for ground/cabling problems. 2: They are teh best. Plus, they look sick in the boot bro! IMO They really aren't needed. |

Plus, they look sick in the boot bro! IMO They really aren't needed. I agree. In your case, I think that it is #1. I am running a bit more than you in my EL. There is * 2 x 125wrms (4 ohm) to the front splits * 750wrms (2ohm) to the sub *factory premo amp to the parcel shelf I have 0g power cables (only to the distribution block), 4g and 8g power/earth to the amps. 2x4g earths from the battery to the body. While I have an Optima Yellow top (D34), I only have an underdriven 85A alternator (as I am running an EB motor/ancillaries). No capacitor and I have no issues with dimming.

LOL on the mea forums they use Moar as a funny way of saying "more" I know what a good earth is i just need more earthing points with thicker cable. |
