wow that screen looks real nice!
i got a spare radio surround thingy i picked up from ford wreckers ere in bendigo but all it was, was just an old 1 sum1 had cut out..
but it doesnt have the lil bit to seperate the screen from the headunit.. was it hard to get the screen to fit in their like that???
and where u reckon best place to get a nice screen? in a fairly low price range.?
ebay???
cheers :D

Personally what i did was combine the 2... depends how much you want to spend though

I bought the 6.5inch alpine touchscreen unit which fits into the normal double din opening in an ef/el and has maybe a 1mm gap around the sides

this way i dont have to worry about a screen trying to flip out because i thought of that problem with the dash that sticks out under the air vents

i also didnt want to modify the radio area because:
1) the screen would be too low
2) the dvd player and buttons would be too low and you would have to reach further down

so considering those things i went for the touch screen unit that sits there in the double din unit and the whole screen slides out slightly when putting in a cd/dvd

i know people may think that someone would steal it if it is always there but:
1) my car is ALWAYS garaged
2) if i am going out i park my car close by in a safe area or just use one of the other cars at home

now considering people will not want to spend $2000 on a unit (i got it half price thats why i bought it) you may be able to find cheaper alternatives

but just take into account the 2 points i made earlier about where the screen will be (the shifter will also be infront of the screen) and also where the DVD player will be

anyway if your ok with the above picture go for it :)

Anyone tried one of the new pioneer double din DVD touchscreens in their EF / EL? Wouldn't mind one of those if I knew they fitted. If would be cool if it slotted straight into the double din surround.

yes they will fit, the din size is std, and the pioneer is a std double din unit, u might have to do some modding down bottom but lookin at the dimensions, it should fit fine
