I've finally gotten the motor into my 94NC Fairlane and it wont start. theres no spark at the coil. when i got the car it started fine and i removed the motor and rebuilt it . couple of days ago i went to fire her up and nothing happened, after hours of reading thru my ford bible i'm still no closer to having it running, i bought a replacement smart lock remote and followed the steps to train it but it says to do things a certain way with the warning light, but i have no warning light at all. basically it feels like the car is cranking over with no spark like the immoboliser is set, or maybe the inhibitor switch. i've gone right thru checking the comps fuses etc and it all seems ok so i'm really stuck. i would greatly appreciate some help as to what other steps i could take to fix the problem.

pretty much everything of importance under the bonnet has been bought brand new so i got stumped as to what the problem is.

thanks guys

ps not sure if i posted in the right forum, it seemed to be the closest tto the problem i have.

Check the fuses, there is a 5Amp (i think) that causes the symptoms you have.

May be a long shot but out of curiosity maybe give the top of the dash a small thump with the ignition on before you hit the starter. Just a thought.

Try another coil maybe could also be in the dissy with a loose or broken wire in electronic ignition , rotor button or the contacts in the dissy cap. Have you tried another ht lead from the coil. Could also be that the timing is 180 degreese out easy done and a prick to find but it does happen

the coil is brand new, leads are brand new i've tried 2 dizzy's both from working cars. the motor has had a full rebuild by myself. i'll check that the dizzy isnt 180 degrees out, i'm pretty sure i got it right when i rebuilt the motor but will check to make sure.

theres no power coming from the coil, so there would be no spark from the dizzy wouldnt there be??

using a power tester on the blue plug that connects to the coil it looked like there was only low power should it be like that?

no power at the output side of the coil, and my tester light shows very weak power at the blue clip that plugs into the back of the coil, i have tried with 2 different coils that i knew worked, and even bought a brand new coil to elliminate that problem. reading through the manual it says if smartlock is engaged it wouldnt even crank over.. but it says if there is a problem with the CTR LP fuse it will crank but not start, the fuse is fine though.

i'm guessing the smartlock comp is no good, i dont even have the smartlock warning lamp lighting up in the cluster, i pulled the cluster out today to check the bulbs but its all working fine. i'm stumped as to what the problem is. i'll replace the smartlock ecu next week and see what happens

It sounds like a bad plug fitting. If it used to run then you must have something unplugged or loosely fitted. I don't think the ecu or smartlock module will be stuffed.

when i bought the car it didnt have the smartlock enabled and didnt come with the remote. i bought it, dropped it out front off the trailor and drove it into the back yard where it sat for a couple of months while i rebuilt the motor. the only other thing i have done to it is remove the factory ford stereo system surely that wouldnt make a difference tho?

You could simpley looking for a broken wire in the loom

Might be a silly question....
Did you connect the earth wire (on a bolt near timing cover)? it is on the same loom that plugs into your dizzy I think.

if you have removed the ford stero ,there is 2 green wires im pretty sure ,one is power for smart lock other is power for the stereo these both need to be connected to eachother as well as the stereo
