ok, so i pulled out the factory speakers in my EL Ghia to figure out why they sounded horrible, turns out the rubber around the edges has all but disintegrated to dust, and some of the cones have rips in them, don't ask me how that happened.
but anyway, i've decided on replacing the whole audio setup, so i'm looking for advice on a couple of things: i want something that will sound as good as possible for the least amount of money(doesn't everyone?) so far i'm looking at a pioneer 12" 1200watt sub running off a fusion 1000 watt mono amp plus a decent alpine headunit, and one of the following 4 components for the front: Polk Audio db6501 Infinity Kappa 60.7CS Focal 165 A1 Alpine SPR-17S so basically my questions are A) which of the above would be the best choice, or could you recommend something better that would be in the same price range? B) what sort of amp should i run the splits off? and C) is this a decent setup overall? i listen to mainly rock music, a little bit of metal. hardly any rap/doof doof. and i dont plan on winning any competitions or anything with it, just something thats gonna sound good and clear. |

your best bet in all honesty mate is to go to an audio store and annoy them with your own CD and see what these speakers sound like for yourself. One piece of advice though form past experience dont get a s**t 4ch amp because it will let down good speakers. my pick out of those would be the focals, but that is becasue i like how sharp they are, but like i say each to their own.
Good Luck! |

As above, take a cd in with some good music that you know really well, listen for the clarity and tone. make sure that you are testing them all on an even level, ie: none of them are amped up when you try them in the store.
with the amp, the best way to go for $$ is to buy a 4-channel that can do your front splits and then be bridged to power your sub. then down the track when you decide to up it, your four channel can power front and back speakers thats my recommendations |
