Hi,
I'm trying to work out how to remove the radio from a "Nov 1985 Telstar TX5." I want to put in a new headunit but after 2 days i am still unable to get the original radio out. If anyone can point me to a website or anything that will help me it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Nick |

What exactly are you having troubles with? Removal of the faceing around the stereo, or the actual unit itself?

Off the top of my head - have you removed the console, ashtray and kick panels? Pretty sure there are some hidden screws somewhere.

If you own a 1985 Telstar Ghia with the grey faced Pioneer Ford stereo (digital type like XF Ghias and ZL Fairlanes), there is a screw either side of the radio surround and two behind the ashtray. The surround should come off - let us know how you get on.

I've taken those screws off but the surround just wont come out. It seems to be stuck on something around the radio. Thanks anyway. |

Last idea - the radio just clicks in, like an AU radio. Do you have the XF Ghia style radio in the car? Ask Strathfield or JB HI Fi how to remove the radio if you are unsure.

I think that I might have to take the car to somewhere like that just to see what's going on.
Thanks for all the help anyway |

have you pulled off the volume knobs and the radio facia itself?
If it is this type of radio with volume and tuning knobs, there'd be 2 large nuts on the stalk behind the knobs! But if so... there would be cutting inolved!

Definitive answer:
Pull out the ashtray and remove the 2 screws holding the radio pane,l then firmly pull the panel straight out - the radio will come with it.. You may need to unscrew the side kick panels and disconnect the radio and cigar lighter wiring before hand.
