i just bought a new all in one car dvd player from ebay. My problem is that when the key is in acc mode the dvd works fine and the screen is quiet. Once i tick it over though i get this really high pitch sound. I think its coming from the lcd coz when i turn the screen off the sound disappears. But even then i can hear a faint buzz in my rear speakers.. Is this an engine noise or is this an earthing problem... Please help!!!
Thanks Chris |

Does the pitch change with changes in engine revs?
If so it is an interference issue which could come down to a wiring issue or a cheap design issue but most likely wiring issue. Where have you connected the unit to? Is it getting power from the factory wiring and has it a solid ground?

i had a similar problem with my old cd player, i found out that when i conected my amp (first mistake left battery connected) cos i connected the rca cable to the amp then the positive apperently the amp will earth through the rca and because the rca tracks in the headunit arent big enough they burn out, therefor not having a good enough earth, an then hearing engine noise that changes with revs.
well that one explanation. |

Goto ebay or Autobahn and get one of those things that stop interferrance, $45 or something

sorry for the delay.. ive figured that after a while like 30 mins of driving the high pitch sound from the screen goes away.. but the sound through the speakers are still there.. Im guessing its interference from the engine coz it does seem like it goes with gear change... I am currently using the ignition wire from the factory head unit but have put the earth straight to the body( even sanding it back) should i run a thicker cable for earth?? can i use some other wire for power supply to test whether it is engine noise or the wire?? if so where can i find it... i own an 94 ed falcon futura

Just as a thought try the ground that is in the harness for the original head unit and see if it helps.
Am I right in assuming that you have amps running all the speakers?

hey everyone just bought one of those jaycar noise filters.... no go... next i attempted to upgrade my groung cable and got a 12 gauge and put it stright to the body... no go... i am lost right now... having a look at the manual it says that the power supply should not exceed 10% of 12VDC plus or minus... could this be it???

If that is the case you should send it back as it is obviously not intended for car usage as a car electrical system is only a nominal 12v system as it can easily go up to 14.4vdc.
