It depends on the amps.. I had some old GMH series Pioneer competition amps that needed a relay and drew a fair bit of current on the remote line. But I don't know of any modern amps that draw that much.
But micro relays don't and they will allow you to put as many amps as you like on the remote wire. might be worth considering... |

Thanks but that's not what I'm asking. All I want to know is how do I make my amp turn on only when the boot is open.

oh.. well in that case I'd either just hook it up directly, or better yet use a couple of relays and set it up so you need both accessories to be turned on and the boot open. (if that is what you want.)

That is looking like the only option... When I get around to actually doing it I can always do a bit of testing. See what works.

Yeah, I meant the second definition. I think I might have misinterpreted your OP anyway, so disregard.
Just one thing to think about if you are going to pick up there, your cheap amp and 6x9's may have a spastic when it turns on and has immediately got signal..... If it's loud it could cause a speaker popping spike. They are only little speakers and probably not a huge issue, but I'd be careful with your gains when you set it up initially! Don't want to blow them out!

I did some testing tonight and it turns out that the negative wire is infact the one that is "opened" when the boot is shut which makes it a pain in the a*** to wire it up to anything.
I've decided to, like krisisdog just said, to simply wire it up to a manual switch as I'm not mounting the amp in the boot any more. I'm building it into the parcel shelf  It fits perfectly there and looks quite good. Don't want to blow them out! The speakers and amp aren't overly cheap ones. I just got them at a good price. The 6x9's are mid range Pioneers and the amp is a Soundstream Lil' Wonder II. Nevertheless, I see what you're saying. I'll make sure the amp is gained right down so I don't blow the speakers into oblivion. And even if I do... I wouldn't be overly fussed
