Hyena lives!
As per my post in the other thread it was one of my "mates" playing a joke. And not a very funny one...

This mod will be finished very shortly, I'm just waiting to track down a 12-5.5v converter so I can run the media player straight off 12v without having to use an inverter

Hyena its good to hear your ok but,

Hyena your mate is a f**k retard . He obviously hasnt had anyone close to him die, because when you hear of such a thing like this, it brings back alot of horrible memorys for some people who have had an experience like this. I was gonna reply in the other post but it has now dissapeared. Whoever started that other thread....you are a f**k idiot, and should be banned forever from Fordmods.

Hey don't go all emo on my man.

That jaycar link doesnt work but I was thinking I'd just find a car charger for a 5v device. I think some phones might run on that and possibly ipods too ? Can anyone confirm that ?

Well most of those car chargers only have a single resistor in them to knock the power down

ive pulled a few apart and found this

some offer a regulated output (rare/hard to find)

jaycar have some cigarette lighter ones with a 5V output into a usb connector. (very eay to modify/pull apart)

<a href="http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=MP3042&CATID=&keywords=cigarette&SPECIAL=&form=KEYWORD&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=">Jaycar Converter!</a>

you can make up a regulated +5v supply with a 5v regulator bang "ZV1505" into their search thingo one pin goes to +12V one pin goes to gnd and one goes to the device, you may need a couple of other bits (diodes or whatever for polarity protection/spikes) the friendly guys in the store should be able to help (or poke fun at you cos you dont know what your talking about, i usually get the latter)

As Jose said, just use a voltage regulator.. looks like a transistor, 12V in one end, 5V out the other, costs like $1 if that.
Or you can pinch one of a megasquirt

Cheers
