yeah i cant wait to see the final product. Would be good to do to mine. I think the warehouse or something had them for about $150 or so. That would kick a**.

How did the cat cable go for the screen wires? I asume it works.

Ive done a similar thing with my screen (smaller screen though). I cut up the surround, angled the screen case front how I wanted it, and fiberglassed/boged it into place. With a heap of carefull sanding, once painted, it looks almost factory. I also had a similar problem of the shape at the bottom, but moulded it to a nice round shape with bog. As for the fixing screws, on the left, I used the ef type "ball" clip, which seems to hold it in fine on its own.

Yeah I picked up this one for $150 from stratties and it had a better viewing angle than most of the others they had there!

The cat5 is working fine. It's only a metre or so and there doesn't seem to be any dramas. I'm also using it for running the camera and it's about 4 metres and again seems fine.

I glued the cut down screen into the surround yesterday, it should be set when I get home this arvo so I'll see how it turned out. It's gonna be bloody hard to get it dead flat and even :(

progress report captain!

I've been a bit slow at doing this with other s**t on. I filled up the gaps with gap filler and bogged it up but the bog cracked in one spot and it's bloody hard to sand in around these fiddley a** spots around the LCD bezel/surround bit. I rebogged just now after some more fiddling and I've had a bit more luck. I think... haha.

I've decided the best way to pull it off is to build the whole surround up higher and dip down where the screen is. I masked up exactly around the black part of the screen I wanna keep and then mixed up the bog with heaps of hardner so it sets quick. Whacked it on then when it was half dry pulled the tape off and sculpted the bog a bit with a stanley knife and then took the edges off with some 600. Sanding half set bog = teh win.

Image

Still more d**k around ahead to somehow shape the bottom curves in to the rest of the surround but yeah, one hurdle partially over. I think...

Here's one I took across the road from my house a few days ago :P

Image

No progress yet, I've been tied up elsewhere. I'll take another pic after I do some sanding and more bogging

thats prob why it cracked if you add to much hardner the bog shrinks after its dry and therefore crackes

Shoey the bog didn't crack, or noticably shrink, looks like I didn't add too much hardner ( I didn't go stupid, but more than you'd usually use) Because the plastic is so thin it was warping and bending a bit as I was sanding it and the bog pulled away from the plastic.

Slight progress seeing as I chucked a sicky today :)

After a bit of building up with bog and sanding I trial fitted it to the dash. Not looking too bad, but a bit rough on the bottom left corner but that's only because the bog was slopped in there and dremeled to fit. Pics for EFfalconsrule :P

Image

Now that I've got a bit of a base to build on and an idea of what can fit I formed up a bit of edging with some cardboard and packed some more bog in there

Image

edit: I've sanded the edges back and have them looking pretty good
...

Image

but now I have the drama of the bog being too thin to bond to the this plastic strip at the bottom, and when I try to sand it back it pulls away from the plastic :(

Image

Not sure how I'm going to get around this short of building the whole bottom strip up alot thicker with bog...

I decided to try some epoxy glue first and it did the trick :D
I flexed the plastic to open up the cracks/joins more then squirted the epoxy in and once set the cracks/joins weren't evident and another thin layer of bog over the top fixed er right up. I just extended the bog across a little on each end and feathered it out into the plastic. If it shows after I wet sand the highfill back I'll have to bog the lot but so far it looks ok.

It's now in hifill (got a run in it but it'll easy sand out) so looking good :)

Love the work mate. Ill have to get my own screen to pay around with.
