Not much to report on with the surround yet but shoey was asking a few questions in PM about the wiring for the screen. This pic shows what extensions were necessary for anyone else that might be interested (not sure if I posted this before but meh)

looks confusing
what did you do with the actual dvd player section? |

Yeah extending alot of the wires was tricky, especially when alot were the same colour. Lots of checking and double checking to make sure all the pins and wires went to the right spot.
The DVD player will most likely just go in the glovebox. It's a tad big to fit under the screen in the area behind the gearstick, plus I like to chuck my sunnies etc there so the glovebox will do.

what if you made a slide out tray thing so the dvdplayer section slides out to load it then pushes back in
just a thorght |

Yeah I thought of that, and if it was a tray load one I would, but it's a pop up opening one so it'd look silly if it came out of the dash, then popped up. I also thought ot removing all the electronics and casing just having the disc spin fairly freely in the air in the console (I tested it like this on the bench) but it wouldn't have much anti shock support so it couldn't be used while driving, plus the laser would probably get dust and crap in it. Besides, this isn't pimp my ride and I'm trying to make it look neat and not too out there. Sitting in the glovebox will do fine I think

Not everyone is as simple minded as you phong. LOL Some people can do this kind of thing, i can. But some can study and get 95% in a test. NOT me. Im tring to get an LCD that does into the other din slot. Ill have to modd my single din to be a double din.

Once you've cut the first plug you have to keep going otherwise you've just killed a brand new lcd/dvd player It did get a bit tedious though and if someone asked me now to do it for them I'm not sure if I'd decline politely

Naturally you need to take breaks from it - otherwise it will send you around the twist, because setbacks will happen. And the thing is as mentioned, Hyena will have a custom setup that no one else has, plus the satisfaction of beating the challenge of doing it.

This is it as of 5 mins ago. It looks a bit average and patchy in the pic because the paint is half dry, or maybe the finished product is lumpy and s**t looking when painted... haha
I did it in matt black, I thought it might be a bit hard to get a good finish with gloss, plus it'd show up any little imperfections and might be a bit too, I dunno, bold. If it looks crap I can aways spray gloss over it tomorrow. I'm pretty much done with it though now. If there are little imperfections I'll live with them - it's going to be buried in the darkened dash anyway where lighting is always dim so yeah. I'm pretty pleased with it so far but I'll have to have a good look tomorrow once it's all dry before fitting it to the car.

looks absolutely awsome dude, it will look great in the car. have you got plans for mounting the dvd player section? like will you fibreglass it in so its neat and sturdy in the glove box or are you going to just sit it in there?

No plans to go crazy with the dvd mount, it'll most likely end up with crap piled on top of it half the time! I might just silicon it to a small platform or something so it's not shaking around and pulling on the wires.

Well, god f*cking hates me.
The least of my dramas are that the matt black came out kinda patchy looking and is semi-gloss in some spots and rather dull in others. Dunno why, but it looks like I'll be painting it again. It's not mounted and screwed in properly in this pic hence the gaps. The main drama, something in the screen electronics has s**t itself in the mean time!! I reassembled the screen back into the surround and tested it on the bench, all working, looking sweet, hooray! Then carry it down to the car, plug it in and the backlight blinks then nothing. F^#$!! So back to the bench, test it all, and find a wire has come loose (theres a million wires running to the screen and they're pretty thin, so with the long extensions of cat 5 on em there's a fair bit of stress with small movements) Re-solder the wire and hooray, it works again. Back to the car plug it in and again blink, then nothing. FU##S&$&^CK! Back to the bench, all wires look good, everything seems to be in order by no picture. So not impressed
