I had to cut up a Climate control circuit board in 3 to do the XH, and I was in a similar position as you're in, what I did was solder the wires on, and after checking the wires and solder joints for integrity, I araldited the joint and wiring area to give support to the wires, as the wire area just near the solder joint will flex and move and most likely in time will break.
I have found this to work really good.
As for the finish, as I say, try the 'brush daub' method. Have a look at http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopi ... highlight= to give you an idea of how the finish looks - also the 'glossiness' is due to the camera flash, and is quite matt finish in normal light.

Not everyone is as simple minded as you phong. LOL

Some people can do this kind of thing, i can. But some can study and get 95% in a test. NOT me.

Im tring to get an LCD that does into the other din slot. Ill have to modd my single din to be a double din.

:P hahaha. i mean i probably could do it but im just plain lazy....i cant even be bothered wrecking my car at the moment lol....takes me a while to get off my a**. oh and studying to get 95% on a test.......f**k that i just cram one day before the exam and an hour just before and just put it on paper.....at the end of the day i don't remember what i studied. not too good in final year :S

i guess having the satisfaction of having it done is a good price after all of that......just like my parcel shelf (i curse u stupid centre seat belts).

hyena i like ur persistent =D keep it up....looks great ^_^

:D

I resoldered a handful of wires but they weren't the issue. Looks like the problem is the thin ribbon cable between the circuitboard and the actual LCD, not any of my handy work. That's gonna be impossible to fix if I can't glue it in place somewhere and keep it working...

(it works in some positions but move it and the screen goes out - like most LCD devices that wear over time) :(

Hmmm in that case i would tape the ribbon cable down on the the LCD screen. On the otherside i have had problems with them before so what i usually did was pull the cable out and make sure the pins are all good. Then use a LOW pressure air compressure or small paint brush to make sure all the dust is out of the socket its self. Then put it in firmly and a bit of hot glue around it to hold in in place.

Tell us how it goes because im contimplating doing this mod with the spare time in my holidays. But i am tring to get a DIN LCD cheap.

What brand/model number is the LCD DVD player you got??? Going to super s**t auto tonight cause dad wants some baring grease so ill have a look at the LCD's. LOL.

Yeah i remember seeing that mod. Was for 8" right? What i dont undertand on the fords is the back seats. There are 2 parts. One has the middle seat in it. The seat belt is in the middle of that larger seat and not in the middle of the larger and smaller seat. Hmmmm the only reason i can think of is so that belt is right out of the way when putting large things in the boot.
Love that when i had to take some large boards to woodhouse. Mums like take the van so they fit and im like naaaa the boot of the falcon. She thought the seats were like those crappy fold down arm rests like on a bombadore. Women!!!

Looking good i'll be keen to see the final product in and working.
I always wanted to do a 15" screen mod, but ran out of time on my car.

Oh well maybe the next one.

Stomper as I said earlier on the brand is highlander and it's from strathfield car radios. They're still on sale for $149.

Pyroay, a 15" indash may be a TAD big...

I solved the problem and it wasn't the ribbon cable like I thought earlier. I have NFI why it worked intermittantly when I moved the ribbon cable around, maybe something was shorting ? :?
After closely examining all the wiring and "buzzing them out" with a multimetre I found the problem in one of the clusters of wires. It was a set that had a 4 pin plug on each end, and all the wiring was the same colour. I cut one of the wires at a time when I extended them initially so they didn't get mixed up but what I didn't realise was despite the plugs being the same on each end the wiring went to different pins (kinda like a cross over network cable) but with the wires being all the same colour I didn't pick it up until testing with the multimetre. So with end A plugged into the circuit board and end B plugged into the screen it would work but if swapped around it wouldn't work. Thats why the problem was intermittant - and would only work when I fluked plugging it in the right way around.

Anyway all sorted now, that trap for young players has been overcome :D

I'll give the surround a light rub back and spray it again tomorrow. I'm going to give it a go in satin black this time after not being real happy with the matt finish.

Yeah satin black 4tw, it came up nicely and I really rate the finish (not that it shows well in this pics)

OK, so all fixed, all repainted and it for the final test fit before mounting properly and tidying up the wiring. When screwed in properly it'll sit a few mm higher and fill the gap around the headunit surround and the clips at the top.

The viewing angle is oretty decent, better than alot of more expensive LCDs I looked at (which quickly became unwatchably white-washed if you looked at them a bit side on.

Image

and picture quality is pretty good too, not that you can make out much from this rather average pic, but I'll get more of a day when it's fitted properly.

I probably won't play dvds very often, most of the time I'll be playing flicks from one of these little babies
