Hi guys,

Just wondering what is the best unit (value for money) to install in the ute.
Don't want anything over the top ... just want something that will be clearer than a handheld unit.

Have been looking at the Uniden units ... not sure if GME is a better unit though ... I really don't want to spend all that much either.

Needs to fit in single DIN space. Mainly for highway usage for work/travelling/cruises ... etc, etc.

Don't want to go over the top on the aerial either ... will most likely be a front guard mount (seeing as I already have another guard mount for my work 2-way/data terminal).

I quickly spoke to a guy (2-way enthusiast) at DSE .... and this guy was a fanatic ... but confusing ... LOL

Thoughts ... ideas ... anything????

Cheers guys

Around the $300-$400 mark ... I guess that's including aerial as well.
Don't want too large an aerial though.

I have seen some RRP prices around ... but there'll probably be places that sell them cheaper ... or if there's a site sponsor that can get these a little cheaper ... that'd be even better.

GME is definitely a better radio than the equivalent uniden unit, but whether its worth the extra $$$ or not is up to you.

Brad and/or I can sort you out with a small discount over RRP.

I highly recommend the following antenna (which can be purchased from d**k Smith Electronics):

6.5dB Elevated-Feed Mobile Antenna
Cat No: D4023
Cost: $79.98 (inc GST)
This tough, elevated-feed, ground-independent UHF mobile antenna can be
used in virtually any mounting position (providing up to 6.5dB gain when
gutter mounted). It uses a stainless-steel whip with a black Dura-Coat finish
and triple chrome-plated brass elevated-feed choke. Comes with 5.0m of
coax and PL-259 coax plug. Adjustable over the 470-490MHz range, so it
can be used for UHF CB or UHF commercial applications.

I have used several antennas and would rate this one a 10/10 for performance. The antenna is not obtrusive or an eyesore. I have it mounted on my LHS front guard.

If you are still seeking a quality UHF CB transceiver I highly recommend the Uniden UH015sx UHF CB (with built in scanner). This radio is excellent value for money (very compact as well).
