Is there anything in particular ppl know of to look out for when looking at in dash dvd players/screens?

looking at possibly getting a cheap system... Axis head unit/dvd player etc... $250... plus a screen.. just trying to decide if i should go with a cheap screen or not...

my stock head unit is double din.. so mainly looking at something to fill the hole...

Any one know of bad things etc to be aware of?

Double DIN FTW :)

Cheap stuff is 'ok' IMHO...something that integrates and has more control is what you get with the better brands - heaps around and A/V stuff has come down in price with all the competing cheaper stuff...so you can still get name brand stuff at a relatively good price IMO.

Pioneer, Alpine, Clarion to name a few - go to your local JB Hi-Fi and demo some gear !

thanks for the link.. i'd thought about that one.. but it doesn't seem to have many features.. including multi region... the axis unit i'm looking at plays mp3.. dvd.. divx.. plus has usb input etc...

the main thing i wasn't sure about was the quality of the cheaper screens...

i dunno why.. but i never thought of JB hifi when wondering where to buy.. guess i could have a look at wow aswell...

Thanks
Trent

yeah the axis unit i'm looking at has usb ... plays dvd/cd/avi/divx/jpeg etc etc.....with usb playback too...for around the 250 mark.... screen i was looking around the same.. costing 200 bucks or so... but may just go with a roof mount for 200... plus install... think i'll just do some shopping around.. see whats out there... main thing i was asking in this thread.. was with the cheap screens is there anything i should look out for?.. or will it do the job just for a basic/wank factor system?

thats how much your looking at for one of the brand name screens. They generally give better viewing from angles than cheaper screens, although i havent seen jaycar ones yet (but i expect they would be pretty decent for the price).

im guessing from what your referring to as expensive that your planning on buying off ebay? I would be cautious buying headunits/dvd headunits/amps off there particularly weird brands. My mate bought a pioneer headunit off there and he found out that one lot of the rca outputs was screwed...tried getting warranty which was claimed to be included but wasnt

yes.. also a lot of those cheap screens on ebay are in hong kong.. and i'm really not keen on buying from hong kong...

i was mainly after a budget system pretty much for poser status.. :P.

but thanks to all the replies in here and phone calls i've made.. i'll stick with buying the Axis head unit.... and if i want i can always get a roof mount screen or in dash screen later on if i choose to...

personally i would recommend pioneer, alpine or eclipse....i have used/owned all three and all performed well....the alpine and pioneer were a bit easier to use/user friendly
