Both of those positions have been done and they are they basically the only two places possible to mount.
I think off the dash would be the better of the two, just personal pref.

Altho, if you are reallty interested an want to do it propper, save for a few more weeks n get the motorised - its hidden when you dont need it and is out of the way at all times, also viewable for everyone.

Yeah motorised is cleaner (no messy wires) so I might just splurge on one with a DVD unit in it.

Have you thought of a roof mounted option?

Ok so after chatting with Martin and discussing it all, I got a 7" screen from Ebay for $170. Now its got a TV tuner in there so if I hook up the areial I can watch my favourite shwos like Days of Our Lives, Passions, Bold and he Beautiful, etc etc  . Now when the circket is on I switch my headunit to AM radio and listen to the commentray. TO avoide getting behind my head unit every time this happens is there something like a double adpator I can use so one end goes to the TV and the otehr end goes to the head unit.

Also Martin, how did you hardwire yours into the 12v socket?

Pull the stereo surround out and you will see where the cig plug gets its pwer from. Look up on the wiring diag which is the positive and source your power from there. As always, you should give the screen its own earth (i.e. dont earth back through the cig lighter).

This is a good source as it only comes on with accessories and the screens have little current draw so wont overload anything.

As discussed, i just spliced the coax from the antennae so it goes to both the radio and the TV. Gets a suprisingly good picture on the telly. You will never get a perfect signal in a moving car... but shouldnt have it on when you're driving anyway

We will talk later when I get the actual screen and know what I am dealing with.

Was thinking Martin/Daniel, feedback on this setup.

Taking out the EF dash, where it seperates down near the 12V socket, where it curves down, runs horizontal to the the centre console. What if I could put a vertical stand up, stuck a U bracket on top with a back rod for support. Screen sits in this little bracket device.

Probably installed on passenger side angled slightly so HU is still accessible. Maybe on a swivel base so it can be moved around.

Do you guys think it could work. Hardest thing I think would be the swivel base, the rest would just require screws and maybe some welding.

Sounds like a good idea, i rekon truy it out if its not too much mucking around; see how it turns out - can always scrap the idea if its not practical or is too much fuss..

Let us know how it goes.

Pics too.

Yeah its a good idea MRE but for me unpractical because

1) I use my 12v socket to charge the phone
2) Getting CDs/DVDs in and out.

I had an idea of putting the screen in front of the head unit on a sliding bracket that folds down to access the ead unit but my brother and I discovered it was harder then first thought.

Good idea though, its different.

mmm that gives me ideas. Ive got a 7 inch (I think) screen floating round somewhere, as well as a spare dash facia and some fbg/body filler, might see what I can come up with next time I have a day off work....

Twir you could mount ya cig lighter somewere else , or mount Ya HU on top hehe :)
also having the screen recesed in the dash will give some better viewing distance and security too
and anti glare aswell :)
cause my little prob is mounting my PC-DVD rom in there aswell
i was looking at mounting to the bottom of the screen !
