hey guys.

Just wanted to know how many globes there are behind the Instrument cluster? Im going to swap em out for coloured ones, But i don't want to take it out just to count the globes then put it back in the go buy that amount.

Anyone else who has done this can they tell me how many they used? And also is it easy to do the clock? thats something ive never been into as my XF didn't have one like my EF does.

Cheers frankie

Only 6? Wow less then i thought. Cheers mate (Y) Also ive seen a few people with the cold cathodes, under there dash.

Was curios has anyone wired them into the same wire that turns ur roof like on when the door opens? I was wondering am i able to just wire it into where the button is around the door? Or would i have to put another one in?

I know how to put it in i just don't know if theres the 12v running down them wires, i aint got one of them things to test them yet :P

the clock is not to hard to do while the cluster is out, takes 1 globe

remove clock from fascia
unclip the rear white housing
undo the 3 screws and seperate the pcb board
then u will see a white/orange filter on the back of the lcd, remove that and replace with a piece of white paper or white tissue paper the same size.
put it back together, put the new globe in and plug it in to check it still works

Yeah you can join into the door button...

You'll need to pick up +12 Volt preferably off the interior light circuit somewhere...

On ED's there is plug where the centre console plugs into, Its a 6 pin plug...

2 wires are for the power/econ switch, 1 is +12Volt when headlights are on (for gear stick light) and a continuous earth for this as well... the last two are for the rear foot well light... pick up off these, one is continuous +12Volt and the other is only earthed with the doors are open...

EF/EL's have rear curtosy lights one some/most models too so you should have a plug where the console plugs into for these... So just use that...

Re consider if you want to change the odometer reading to blue, as it reduces visibility during the day - making it very hard to look at during the day.

I just did the 6 mentioned above and kept the ODO and the rest of the displays orange.

Keep in mind 6 is for fairmonts + and there is only 4 for base clusters (?) add one for ODO.

Of course there are around 15 or so all up but they are for warning lights which you don't need to worry about.

the gli cluster has 6 bulbs too, i was guessing u are doing the 6 gauge xr6 cluster but that is also 6 globes, plus 1 for the clock and 2 for the standard climate control lighting

the wiring for the rear courtesy light as mentioned by troyman is found at the front of the console rh side, just pull the tray and the t-bar/shifter surround out first out (3 screws) to get to it. courtesy + and - are the centre 2 wires

i have blue multi leds in my dash and have no problems seeing the odometer

the colour changing ones may be harder to see
