Joytech make one specifically for these units, thats is one for the PS2 and another for the Xbox.
Best to do a search on google for them, they cost around $60

neither of them draw any significant amount of power
basically the cheapest inverter you can buy will run it without an issue.
it just depends on if you want to run anyone else off it also (ie computer / laptop / power tools etc)

you can spend up to 1000 or so on an inverter pretty easliy, but $100 should get you going without any dramas

try jaycar :)

Agreed. Jaycar, d**k Smiths, Tandy. Nothing too special required to power a playstation, could probably mod them to take a straight 12v but a small inverter will do just fine.

I bought a cheapo one from d**k Smith to run my laptop. About $70 and can do up to 140 watts which is plenty for PS2. Works fine and great for camping to run stuff or charge mobile phone. They will flatten your battery eventually though, depending on how good it is and how much power you're using.

or you could buy my 1500w one :p
that would certainly power a ps2, or 20.

my mate tried to run an xbox off a 150w unit. wouldn't even power up, not enough power.

i decided to spend the extra money and get the 300w and i'm using a PS2 (no HDD, less power drawing) so i've got the headroom.

apparantly jaycar is the way to go for quality, haven't heard great things about the d**k smith ones. thats what i heard anyway

JoyTech PS2 Invertor is 100w as a PS2 only draws 50w it is more than enough, it also has low battery protection, that is it will cut out before it flattens the cars battery leaving you enough to start the car.
food for thought when your shopping around.

of course it does depend on what else you wish to run on it.

At d**k smith there are four to pick (3 at Tandy).

150W ($89), 300W ($128) and 600W ($298) all Mod Wav
and a pure sin wav inverter is 300W ($299)

We have had no luck with the Mod Sin wave for use with a Console, but the pure sin wave works like a chime. Not sure why, but he PS2 and Xbox like a pure wave. The PS2 only pulls 90W.

Jaycar have the same thing (different brand) and pretty much the same price, maybe a few dollars cheaper. But the choice is up to u. :)

me n a mate installed an xbox in his car using a 150W (i think) from d**k,

runs it nicley

althought his battery doesnt last to long, i guess thats what happens when it runs headunit, TV, xbox, 2*12" subs on 1000W amp and a 250W amp for the front
haha
yes im pretty sure its a standard battery, and no its not happy

oh, and we cut the end, put the fuse back in and spliced it onto the old car kit line (which he doesnt use) and put a switch in there, as the phone kit isnt on ACC, its always on, so needed the switch.

it also runs a tv antenna for the TV, nothing like some jerry springer while driving to uni :D so we put a 3 way switch in, ON|OFF|ON

so yeh, can turn xbox on, tv antenna on, or both off. works a treat

Does everybody convert their 12V back to 240AC to plug their PS2 into?

For the new playstation, why don't you use an 8.5v dc regulator???

I may have missed this before or something, but it makes more sense to me
