I bought a Sony Xplode tape deck, 12 disc stacker and speaker combo a couple of years ago, used it for about 6 months and wasn't that impressed with it. Took it out and went back to Pioneer. I think it is still laying around in my shed somewhare.

i would go with yes.

but i happen to own a 10" xplode sub ( custom MDF box) and xm222 amp its been in 3 cars now and used for a home theater at one stage i think its one of the first of the explode series about 6 or so years old now.
it absolutly cranks and has for 6 years and has never had a problem sounds realy good. but my work car has a xplode cd player which is absolute crap!!!!

the sony "xplode" series speakers and amps are s**t but they do have an upmarket series (not sure on name but they are the silver ones). However the sony head units are awsome. I had a denon that came with the car and upgraded to poineer, then went to my first sony (mid level mp3, amp pre outs ect.) and now i have an even better sony head unit and the sound quality from this headunit is so much clearer than the poineer. Even the mid level sony vs the mid level pioneer the sound difference was dramatically cleaner with the sony.

The only thing that sony make decent is monitors/screens/tvs... the rest of their home/car AV stuff is s**t.

i'm very happy with the sony gear i've got, mind you it's getting near the top end of their range. Having installed a lot of their cheaper gear, i wouldn't recommend that to anyone. any sony gear that's easily obtainable at supercheap should stay at supercheap - that's exactly what it is!!

I bought polk audio speakers and they told me if I ran it off any sony branded amplification that I'd void my warranty... wouldn't touch sony unless you can pick it up for cheap/free and you're after something cheap.

Sony are getting out of the car audio industry in the next 2 years to concentrate on their other products more.

I know of three different cars with Sony Explode s**t and none of the radios worked after 4 months only the CD.

I agree that Sony car stuff is s**t.
