U said ur putting in 6x9's, 6x9's are not designed to run with a sub, if u have a sub just run 6 inchs. i dont no y but 6x9's and subs dont work together. but thats my opinion.

I've never heard of that...unless you are talking about the sound wave from the 6x9s destructively interfere with the sound waves of the subs since the sub is giving positive waves and the 6x9s giving negative waves, assuming the 6x9s are on the parcel shelf and sub in the boot.

if that is the case, then I don't think you would notice much, or any difference. I'm running 8" speakers in the rear and 2 x 10" subs, they run fine for me and the 8" speakers don't produce bass since i have filtered it out.

you will definately need to fiberglass the back of the panel to make a box. if your unsure on how to do it search the forum in the link i posted. there are a few how to's in there aswell as a heap of "backyard" setups.

oh and i also noticed your running 8 or 10 guage wireing? you may want to look at stepping up to 4 guage especially if your running 2 amps from the one line. my option would be 4 guage from the battery up to a distribution block then run either 2 8 guage or 2 4 guage wires to the amps. remembering to do the negative in 4 guage also. you just want to make your your amps have ample power and dont heat up and melt (which has been known to happen)

It's been a steep learning curve but there's a definite sense of satisfaction in having done the work yourself (ok, except the carpeting!)

looks ok, the the lpg tank is just not doing it for me, how far is that tank sitting out? could ya put a removable wall infront of it and mount the amp on that?

how much for the carpeting of those 2 panels?

looks good, but AT LEAST get a serious layer of sound deadner on that metal surface.

Cheers, yeah at the moment I've got 10mm of some sound insulating foam stuff I got from Clark Rubber. I've plastered it all over that side of the boot. It's done a better job than I thought, sounds pretty good. Will wait until I get the rest of the gear in, see how it sounds and then work out what to do with fibreglassing and the rest of it. I still have some leftover dynamat from when I did the bootlid so might put that to use too.

The carpeting of the two panels was just over $200 (the carpet was included). They also did around the back of the boot near the gas tank and at the front of the boot near the tail lamps (pretty much wherever was exposed metal), and trimmed my existing boot carpet to suit. It was a pretty professional job so was quite happy with it.

Will hopefully be mounting the other amp on the opposite panel this weekend and wiring it all up, so will clean up the boot a bit and post some more pics up then. Might get the 6x9's in too, but am still deciding whether or not to use a spacer :/

Well, it's been a long road, but the end is drawing near!

My new 6x9's: stealth from above, plenty of power from below...

Yep, those are mounted from below, with the little black plastic spacer, and still manage to fit above the gas tank. I reckon I've got about 1cm clearance on the left and 1.5 cm on the right




Last but not least, my new front speakers. The above picture doesn't show it but there are now handmade MDF spacers between the speakers and the frame of the car and then the black placcy ones are now sitting between the speaker and door trim to stop the rattling. There was a brief 'oh sh*t' moment when the speaker initially wouldn't fit in - it was too deep/wide and was pressing against the edge of the metal window frame. Luckily I was able to enlist my dad to do some hacking (see above with arrow) and now they fit no worries

So it's been a productive weekend so far... the rear speakers have since been wired up and my 4ch amp is also mounted and ready to go (no photos of that til I tidy up some wires and vacuum the boot ). All that is left to do is to mount and wire up the cross-overs. I'm excited - can't wait to hear it crank!

I do owe an absolute heap to my old man who has been a stack of help through the whole process, especially this week. I'm going through a pretty horrible break-up and - as sad as it sounds - this little project is all that is keeping me going at the moment

Oh, and Molloy, heard what you were saying re the gas tank spoiling the look Will be making another trip back to the auto upholsterer soon and get it covered in black carpet.

nothing like a good project to keep you busy. did you end up boxing in that sub?

my sujestion here is to track down a parcel shelf with the premium sound and install it so that way you have the grill over that sub hole. therefore you will have a port for the bass sound to reach the cabin easier AND will prevent distorsion in your 6x9's as the air movement from the sub will move the cones on the speakers even if not powered and can cause damage to them
