I just picked up a nice new handheld CB this morning which comes with the ability to listen into emergency frequencies on top of the regular 40 channels which has been fun listening to the cops with. I've also been listening to the feral truckers on the duplex channels as well. Pretty good reception for a handheld unit. Damn fine entertainemnt too.

half the time i end up turning my stereo down and listening to the scanner, or tuning in to certain repeaters around the area.

tops fun.

Neither of my 2 daily drivers have had a working sound system. The digital scanner provides hours of entertainment for the entire family.

If i really do feel the need for some other entertainment, I can always tune into the radio or TV stations anyway! :)

The other good one is listening to Maccas/KFC/Hungry Jacks/etc drive-thru staff :D

154mhz and 41mhz

I've also got this "Selcall" feature.
Apparently my unit has it's own unique Sellcall Identification number and this system can operate like a telephone. You can talk to other Sellcall Ident users if you have their Sellcall Identification, and talk only to them.
Lotsa gadgets to play with here. :)

selcall is tops.
it basically just sends an id number to other radios, and you can store other radios ID etc.

when im at uni i sometimes tune in to the on campus security, thats always fun

I always thought selcall allowed anyone on the channel to listen/speak but selcall is a method of getting their attention in the 1st place. Ie. Selcall tone transmitted, recipient sees "oh, that's me" and starts beeping to let the user know he/she had been selcalled......?

Lol, drive thru staff sounds like heaps o fun!!!!!

I'm with you.
It's just that personally, I hardly ever refer to a Taxi as a Cab is all so I drew a blank for a while.
