As you can guess, I have a bit mutha LPG tank in my boot and was wondering what others have done to:-

a. Box in there LPG tanks, but still have the hatch accessible &

b. have a decent sub & amp setup and still leave boot space

I have given in to the urge to have loud music, where-ever I go. Hell, my work car has a better sound system than the lane ATM, and it's just a factory Pajero system

Don't get me wrong, I still love the sound of the ole V8, but for longer trips more is needed

One of my good mates is an A-Class cabinetmaker and can build me anything I throw at him, so please offer any suggestions you might have and don't be shy with the pic's either

Can any of you photoshop wizards install a sub either side of the tank and put a centre removable section with Ford Logo and perhaps a couple of amps on there sides on another panel across the lowerbottom half. (hope i'm not asking too much )
I'm trying to avoid doing too much on the side panels as I want to try and retain the original look as much as possible.

have you thought about a shallow mount 8" sub mounted in the factory location? then just box up the LPG tank straight down with an access panel, maybe mount the amp behind the panel with a perspex cover and embossed ford logo???

That's a good idea huggiebear. I think you will find that because of the control box on the tank once the panel is in there you will loose heaps of boot space. Plus I don't think even a shallow mount sub in the factory location will fit with the tank there. You could try spacing it above the parcel shelf a bit though, that might work.

ill get a pic of my 8" in there which is spaced up about 16mm. but that was due to the size of the sub (JBL) its pretty big lol

but i can also fit the twin 12" box under it, but i have no idea how big LPG tanks are..

recently i cut that sheet to fit the tank better (wrapped around) and leave the inspection cover accesible also.

is it possible to turn the tank around so the inspection cover faces the seats?

Thanks fella's! A couple of good idea's there so far.
I have a couple of things in my favour in that the fairlane's have huge boot space and there appears to be a fair bit of cabling already in place to the boot, just have to figure out what is what.
Unfortunately Huggie, the tank's mountings are designed to only go the one way and the other problem about the factory location is the top of the tank buts up to the parcel shelf with only mm's to spare, so I don't even think a shallow sub would fit. It would have to be entirely mounted above the parcel shelf which I am not that keen on.
Gunna head out to the shed shortly and get a few better pics so you can get a bit of an idea of what i'm after.

What to do eh! Just have to pop over to my mates Joinery and let him go to town with boxing the tank and I'll go from there I think.

throw in a board on the side and mount the amp(s) to the side of the boot. this is my old setup

and to let you know i used the factory fabric to mark out the template and then glued it onto the board so it all matched.

this is my old boot install, as you can see next to no room left! i think the amp on the side board idea in the rear right quater is very space econimical thats what i have now but i also have another mono block and 2 kicker 12's in a twin box

i'll try and explain what i've got in my head. i dont have my scanner here so i cant just draw you a sketch!

Mount the amps under a false floor. Actually frees up a bit of space because the floor is now flat not like currently.

Run a solid backboard along the inside of the tank. Just to give it a smooth, flat finish and make it look good. Put an access hatch or make the whole thing flip down to get to the tank stuff.

Then put a shallow mount sub in the drivers side of the boot, where they put the factory amps. I've got a decent size toolbox there so a shallow sub will fit easily.

Then put a sideboard on the passenger side just to make it more symmetrical.

and voila!! sexy looking, lpg friendly amp/sub install!

you could mount 2 shallow mount subs, one on each side. a little bit of fiberglass and hey prosto... and the box's could be easily removed id needed
