Hi guys,
Once i pick up my new EB Ghia i will be installing a new sound system so im looking to plan it out and get my head around what i need for a decent quality system. I am open to everyone's advice and opinions as im still learning. Im looking for a system with 4 - speakers 1 - 12' sub 1 - amp for sub 2 - tweeters and the appropriate crossovers and what not to help with quality Head unit I have the following pioneer Head unit which i will be keeping but everything else i am ready to buy. DEH-P7950UB http://www.pioneer.com.sg/storefront/Pr ... Id=2,24,32 Speakers & Tweeters This is where i need most help, for a start what size can i fit in the front doors without any mod or limited hammer work. 5-1/4" / 5"×7" MULTIFIT SPEAKER SYSTEM or 6-3/4" / 6"×8" MULTIFIT SPEAKER SYSTEM I can allow $200 - $250 for the front speakers Subwoofer I like the following sub as i have plans to display it well. Clarion PXW1252 http://www.installationplus.ca/images/PXW1252.jpg http://www.clarion.com/au/en/products/2 ... 33148.html Amplifier I am not 100% sure but looking on the Clarion website with my limited knowledge this looks like my only option in amplifiers to run the above subwoofer. http://www.clarion.com/au/en/products/2 ... 99318.html I might look at buying a small amp to run the front speakers/tweeters, Something like the APX2181 which can push 90w x 2 at 4ohm Quality I read about cross overs and if someone could explain where i should use them it would be great, i think.... i have a basic idea that they send high and low frequency signals to the appropriate areas ie. tweeters or sub ect where they sound. The amp im looking at using for the sub might have crossover built in? Any ideas on what size box would best suit my sub, i don't want a ported box as i would have to work out how to do it when i build the box. As i i said at the start advice and opinions welcome to help me plan my system. I think that's most questions for now, will sleep on it and add some more tomorrow night. Regards.

Front's you can get 6 1/2" splits (custom mount tweeter) not too sure about mounting depth. http://www.ryda.com.au/Pioneer-TS-D1602R-Car-Speakers-p/tsd1602r.htm These are 59mm and i know they fit, sound really nice too. http://www.ryda.com.au/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=SC60&Show=TechSpecs These should just fit straight in and sound f**k awesome. itlookslikeaxr6 wrote: I like the following sub as i have plans to display it well. Any monoblock with 400+w rms will work http://jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AA0460&CATID=24&form=CAT&SUBCATID=595 This doesnt look as nice, but it gives you more power for about 100 bucks less. itlookslikeaxr6 wrote: I read about cross overs and if someone could explain where i should use them it would be great, i think.... i have a basic idea that they send high and low frequency signals to the appropriate areas ie. tweeters or sub ect where they sound. The amp im looking at using for the sub might have crossover built in? You are right about crossovers, they basically split the signal so the right sounds are coming out of the right driver. Amps have a filter, so for a sub they block out all frequencies above say 120hz. As subs are big and slow moving things, they dont like making sounds any higher pitched than that. itlookslikeaxr6 wrote: Any ideas on what size box would best suit my sub, i don't want a ported box as i would have to work out how to do it when i build the box. There will probably be a plan or at least recommended volumes with the sub. I did a search on enclosures and here was a design for a ported box http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/3/61257898.jpg Obviously you are only going to use one, but the thread i found that in basically said these subs like to be ported (cant confirm myself). |

Quote: Spend 350 on fronts and ignore (or get meh) rear speakers and only listen to them when there are people in the back. Ill use my clarion speakers for the back! Quote: Front's you can get 6 1/2" splits (custom mount tweeter) not too sure about mounting depth. http://www.ryda.com.au/Pioneer-TS-D1602R-Car-Speakers-p/tsd1602r.htm These are 59mm and i know they fit, sound really nice too. I might go for the pioneer ones i like them, i don't have to custom mount the tweeters either. Supercheap does pioneer gear and i may be able to order them in, i can get 25% off because i work for BCF and there owned buy the same ppl. Comes in handy for car supplies! 90w rms is overkill (not necessarily a bad thing) for front's as most are under 70w rms. Ill find out what rms the speakers are when i get an amp to suit the fronts. Quote: Any monoblock with 400+w rms will work http://jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AA0460&CATID=24&form=CAT&SUBCATID=595 This doesnt look as nice, but it gives you more power for about 100 bucks less. I have seen the clarion amp for $230 - $300 and again if i can order it through supercheap would be awesome, if not ill see what autobarn can do. That box looks good but i didn't want to port as i would make it hard to display the sub as i was going too, i got the idea off a picture but can't find the damn thing, wants to show the back of the sub using glass as one side as it's fairly cheap, doesn't flex(even though its only 1 sub) and easy to work with. Kenay wrote: do you want SQ, SQL or SPL. for front speakers get your self some cresendoe opus 3's what is your full budget I don't really have a set budget as im still looking around and i dont know the difference between SQ, SQL and SPL. More to think about at work today... Thanks for your advice guys

itlookslikeaxr6 wrote: So do i need to get any crosovers or is it all built in? The main difference between splits and co axial speakers are that the cross overs are better. Co axial speakers have them built in, while splits have another box with better cross overs, both come with the speakers. itlookslikeaxr6 wrote: I have seen the clarion amp for $230 - $300 Sounds like a good deal. itlookslikeaxr6 wrote: using glass as one side as it's fairly cheap Glass? Or Plexiglass? Do not use glass as it will shatter... Cant handle a lot of mid bass though. |

You can use glass (toughened) but it's hard to work with in the thickness you require for a sub box. Plexiglass is much easier to work with but also much easier to scratch.

I wouldn't be confident drilling into glass and wouldn't recommend it to someone who hasn't done it before. |

Well mate if you want to know anything about the clarion stuff send me a pm .
Also if you going to mount the pxw1252 id do a custom box for it . Not too expensive but if you set it up right u will get the correct sound . definatly not a fan of those pioneer speakers at all . As Kenay said you need to know what you are looking for . If you just put a randomn setup then the quality of the sound doesnt always work. I think that you should get a unit with tweeters and x-over and nothing inbuilt just because the sound quality aint that good IMO . If you after a specific sound too with your setup that can also come into it .

What don't you like about those Pioneer speakers? They actually sound pretty good, but I'd recommend lower model splits to give him a better sound stage.

go buy a 4channel amp any one really.
OA front splits and rear 6ins, amp them all, and youll have a f**k good sound for not much cost. People say not to bother with good rear speakers, i say if you have good sound in the front and rear its gonna sound better overall right? meh |

87SIlude wrote: i say if you have good sound in the front and rear its gonna sound better overall right? No. Audio is 2 channel. By putting speakers in the back you are going to get (more so) out of phase audio coming from the back and you will pull your sound stage further back. Do you ever listen to your ipod with 4 headphones? Brockyb8 wrote: definatly not a fan of those pioneer speakers at all . ? For speakers that arnt splits (cause i was too lazy to do it in this car) they sound great. Yea sure they cant handle bass for s**t but the treble is good. |

You cannot drill toughened glass. It WILL shatter.

Yeah, I guess if you get the glazier to do all the cutting and drilling, all you have to do is seal it and screw it in
If you set the high pass filter to 80Hz for those Pioneer coaxs, they can go fairly loud and have decent midbass with a well sealed enclosure/door. |
