Doing a setup for a friend of mine, He is using 2 x 12" subs, unknown what type yet.

After looking at a few amplifier combinations, we will probably use a monoblock amp.

My question is, has anyone had experience with the Jaycar Response mono? I am keen to know how this holds up against similar powered, more expensive amps. My friend is not much of an audiophile and I am curious to know whether shelling out the extra cash for a more expensive brand is worth it.

We will may use a boston g512 with their suitable passive radiator.

Any opinions would be nice...
Cheers,
Matt

The response amps (all of them) are great quality and value. For a first system, I wouldn't bother spending much more.

If he becomes an audiophile later, he can upgrade adn resell the response.

LOL, you might want it tested before you make statements like that.

That area is the shiznit.
Couple of decent cars too. Supercharged corty, a Sprint, and ferrari exotica.

I attended the AudioTech SPL Drags yesterday (here in Canberra), and the winner of the StreetMax category won with 148.8dB. His setup.

A Camry wagon :P
4x 15" subs
4x 1000WRMS monoblocks

160dB from two 12's and one 800W amp - not a chance.

Oh and what's the deal with not having the engine running during the test? I'd want the extra volts from a running altenator. The bigger setups ran extra batteries and flattened them before their 30sec run was up.

Anyone got link/info pn how DB drags are run/scored/measured ?

thats the point of having the engine off, that way everyone is on a 12V system, and they run flat :D

not really to do with voltages, the big boys get 16V batteries......

IIRC its more to do with exhaust fumes in the building
