The should be info on the VIC roads website id assume ... as I was saying i was confident of this legislation in NSW/ACT and WA as they are very similiar but honestly havent looked into anything in VIC so wasnt gonna comment. Off hand what battery did you have in there that didnt pass? maybe the inspector was a knob too...Like I was saying in the other post there seems to be a lot of confusion on what an actual sealed battery is...

Any word from the OP about running a earth wire from the battery - terminal all the way back to the engine bay's original - terminal. Be sure to use 2 gauge too.

Sounds like an earth problem. Modernish cars with spot welded panels/chassis do not have a very high current carrying capacity, so a dedicate earth wire may be required.

As suggested, get a multimeter, and measure the voltage at the starter (or close to it - the factory battery terminals in the engine bay) when cranking, if it's too low, you'll have the problems you're experiencing.
