Time to solve the problem once and for all! My bootlid is flexing due to the new sub. There are no rattles if i have the bootlid open and up. as soon as i start to lower the bootlid, the vibrations begin. halfway closed and it's sounds horrible! i've done my searching, but to no avail! the question i'm posing is - has anyone filled their bootlid with something like no more gaps (or similar expanding foamy stuff) to "strengthen" the bootlid and stop it from flexing as much? i'm pretty sure there aren't any major moving parts (only thing i can think of is the key lock in the boot - can live without! and the boot release cable - can't live without!).
i've read all about the flashtac and similar sound deadening products, but don't think that would stop rattles! any other ideas appreciated - if my idea sounds absolutely stupid, tell me!

Whats happend is the adhesive used at factory to fix the ribbing to the boot lid had hardended and come away. What you have to do is pick out as much of the old glue as you can then space out the boot skin from the ribbing if no space already there with matches or something similar. Then pump urethane or similar between ribbing and boot skin and let dry before using sub, remove spacers also. Even after doing this you may have rattles coming from the number plate area, if so foam strips can be used to stop this.

Remi (Smackdown) filled his bootlid with gap filler. Weighs a bloody ton. As for sound I am not to sure.

dont use anything that expands, it can distort your outer skin. Use something that'll give a bit as well....

Silicone is the best bet mate....
Just remember that the vibrations will just move to the next weakest spot and don't bother chasing them 'coz it will drive you nuts trying to fix it. Just do your best to muffle it as much as possible... |

Be careful if using silicone as some are acidic and may eat into the steel work.

Just a couple of tips. Using clear silicone works a treat and if you take some time with the caulking gun it can look waaaaaayyyy better than the factory junk they use. (If you don't have a bootlid carpet that is...)(Who doesn't have a bootlid carpet anyway come on GLi owners there $40!!)
For the number plate: remove it, run beads up and down about 3-4cm apart till you get to the other end. Let dry for about an hour. Then reinstall it. This way it won't mark your paint.
