hey ya'll i started my boot install today. isnt much at the moment but we all start somewhere

it starts with my gear... i MTX monoblock amp, and a Kicker 12 inch solo baric round sub. which was new untill the cruise yesterday when it rolled and ripped some of the foam surround off :(

but new subs are on their way.

the head unit is a kenwood mp3 player, fronts are 5 1/4 (to fit in stock positions) component splits running HERTZ HIGH END 3 WAY CROSSOVERS to achieve a better sound quality from the front speakers.

the rear are cheap 27 dollar akai 6x9's i bought about 3 years ago for my laser but i fitted them to the car when my dad owned the car. they will soon be exchanged with my 6.5 inch component splits i have sitting here.

the end result i want a neat looking setup of complete kenwood gear. im buying the new 07 series subs (2 of at 400rms each) and im waiting a few more weeks for the new series amps to be released.

anyways here is what it looked like this morning

and after about 20 minutes mucking around

next up is finding my fairmont ghia boot trims which cover from the shock towers right to the back of the car and make it look so much more posh as you dont see any of the following metal walls

ok a little bit of work done... basically covered the amp board a few days after making this thread. didnt cost me anything :D

and since them i have designed some new boot light panels which some of you have seen in my other thread.

so they are about 2 days away from completion. and tonight strathfield car audio had a massive sale on, so i poped in there and spent some cash.

walked out with 2 MTX XT12-04 12 inch subs and a set of JBL CS2165 2 way 6.5 inch speakers.

so now that i have spent more then i was suposed to (RRP $490 total, i wont say what i payed as i got mates rates ontop of sale) so i wont be building the box for a few weeks now.

Looking good man. I love the look of those MTX subs. Where are those 6.5" coaxials going? Front doors of rear parcel shelf?

I wanna get myself a reasonable pair of 5.25" coaxials similar to that for my front doors... Any ideas?

they are in the rear shelf at the moment. im using the kenwood 5.25 splits in the front. IMO JBL do some awesome speakers. they are really clear and the cones look carbon fiber (i have never seen or felt carbon fiber so i wouldnt know if its real) but i only paid 56 bucks for them new (hehe i think they priced them wrong but my mate sold them to me at that price which was about 10 bucks under cost)

in my opinion use splits. i have encountered that in the falcons you dont get alot of volume from the front speakers. so if you mount the tweeter under the dash panel (im pretty sure EF/EL have them too) in the factory position you get alot more volume straight to your ears. where as when i had just the 4 inch speakers in the front you didnt hear much.

i also just finished reading the thread on amp gains and how to properly set amps ect in your car. and i think everyone should have a browse

oh also... taking the light panels up tomorrow to my dads old boss to find the best way of covering them. ill also be picking up some scrap dacron to put under the fabric to create a soft smooth look to them. so hopefully by tomorrow night ill have them in and working again. just awaiting LED globes from a mate he is aquiring from his work. :D

Yeh man, I hear you.
I've already got Pioneer splits up front with my tweeters mounted exactly where you said, but I've got an idea that I think will work really well and it involves the tweeter component of a split speaker as well as a coaxial. I tried it and it gives such f**ing clear high end I almost cried
What I've done is mounted the tweeter up top with a little crossover type thing which simply cuts out the mids and lows and only produces the highs... from about 6k onwards. The tweeters are wired up in such a way that they aren't recieving the full 55wattRMS but are still recieving the full signal range (minus the mids and lows thanks to the frequency splitter) Then I have a direct line from my amp straight into my doors where I want to mount coaxials so that they can produce the mids as well as the highs.
Does this make any sense at all or is it just jumble??? Anyway... I know it's kinda crude but it works... flippin well, and has eliminated my need for big luggy crossover units :D
