My brother (tjb45) pointed this post out to me as I used to have an identical model TX5 (just non-turbo). Nice project you've got going. Just going to point out that I had a semi-decent system in my old Telstar and I found that mine had bad leakage problems from the hatch seal near both rear corners. It got a lot worse once a granny hit the rear end but it was there beforehand. Don't know if you'll have the same issue, but it may be something to watch out for.

Ok first round of testing is complete.
We got 125.2dB by slamming the boot shut and after practice a maximum of 126.7dB.
Not bad considering for just shutting the boot and considering there were no speakers in the car at that stage.

On a serious note testing showed the port tuning is too low for these woofers and I need to build a new port tuned higher.

So far 147.8dB is the best we have recorded at 50htz

The Amps are producing 3,291rms per pair which is good so the power supply system is obviously set-up correctly.

Now there is heaps more tuning to do + plenty of fine adjustments and trialling such as box positioning in the car, more more rounding of the internal box itself etc…

Still a lot of tunning to go. got 145.7dB on the wekend and was a bit dissapointed.

Then after the comp realised the earth cable had come out of one of the amps, which menas 2 amps were down since they are strapped so 145.7dB is not too bad from 1 sub.

Well on the reccomendadtion of someone in the know i changed to a Bandpass box and after just over 15hrs of testing the results are dissapointing.

Going for a smaller ported box with a higher tuning freq so we will see how we go.

Testing on Wed night

Bandpass boxes have interesting properties when compared with ported and sealed boxes.

I graped one up with a certain front to rear chamber ratio and it showed that subs maximum output occured with the minimum x-max.

That is great if your sub has a high electrical power handeling and relatively low X-max such as these speakers, but because of the sealed side there is much greater resistance on the cone (hence reduced x-max) and that also results in lower output.

They also have a peak plateau, rather than a single peak point so you have a range of points that are all quite loud.

Overall suited to to situations where you have a sub with a strong electrical motor and limited s-max + plenty of power.

In this application there is no where near enough power to get the subs working to their maximum in this design and hence overall output is moderate.

Going to try a 180lt ported enclosure on Wed night. Will post more pics tomorow.

Well good news and bad news.
This car is being SOLD.
It is simply not the right car for the job and it will be sold over the next couple of weeks.

Good news is that we have found the car we need. I borowed it from a friend and did some initial testing and we have already suppased at least 1 x Auatraliian Record and the magic 150dB mark.

Now all i need to do is raise the $8,000 needed to buy one for myself and we are in business.

PS: Before you all ask he is selling the car too so no i cant just use his one.
Anyone got a spare Mirage??
