My Sq system is almost finished. I have experimented with different speaker locations and speaker systems and have finally found a system that works well when my wife and I are both in the car. Kick panel mountings was first tried but thats no good when the missus gets in with her handbag so that was no good. I then tried the factory locations with my long time favourite Kef splits but the bias was too strong to the drivers side, I then tried a set of Kef uniq's in the factory door locations and that worked tremedously well but they don't have the midbass that I yearn for so I had to put in my Canton rs 3.28's. This is a 3 way set with 1's, 5's and 10's running passive. So using the factory locations for the mids, the tweeters in the sails and the midbass in the lower half of the door it all works well.
The door trims can be returned to original with no marks at all and with the sound damping required for the 10's the door even sounds more solid even when you close it.
I have some more testing to do with the 15's getting them to work properly through the rear seat, I may have to remove some of the metal from the seat back yet. What have others done regarding this???
ANy way I should get the sails done in the next week or so and I will post some pics if they turn out ok.
I would be interested in others comments if they can suggest some improvements before it is finished.
Thats it for the moment, Outlawxr6...

The subs just touch the carpet on the rear of the seat. It isn't ideal so I will be moving it all back about 10mm just to give it a little bit of clearance.
Cheers, Outlawxr6....

Hi, Sq means sound quality as opposed to Spl which is sound pressure level or sound quantity.
Sails are the name for the panel that sits in the forward corner of the front window. In the El there is a plastic panel that sits in this location and is certainly big enough to mount a tweeter on axis to give the best possible sound from this location.
Hope this helps you some....

Looks like an awesome setup outlawxr6.
Out of interest, if you plan on moving the subs, you should try facing them the other way, towards the boot.
I have my (admittedly s**t :P) sony 12" facing rearwards, with the phase reversed.
This works well in my situation (LPG tank in boot)

looks good there mate =D i have my 10" sub where u have ur 2 15s and doesnt seem to hit the back of the seat. mainly becos i use the exisitng holes to hold the MDF and speakers in place and that is about 5 to 10 cm away from the seats. u might want to give that a try.

so there is no issue havin the subs so close to the seats? thought it would have a detrimental effect not having as much air volume to push?

then again i know jack about car audio ;)

might have to go remake my sub box and cut it down from its ~3.5c/f ported state :)

i think non ported sub boxes may have a problem with the subs facing the back seat. but in my case there isnt a problem since my sub is a Free-Air sub so im using my boot as my box saving a whole lotta space. but if u have a ported sub box i think it wont cause any trouble facing the subs behind the seats. correct me if im wrong anyone......

EFfalconsrule, I only have 1 set of 3 way splits which is 6 drivers plu the 2 15's
Steady ED, as my 15's are running free air that would be a little difficult requiring a lot of fabrication but may be worth looking at.
I have a little bit more exprimentation to do yet regarding the subs but the fronts are pretty well nailed now just need to make up the permanant mounts for the tweeters and trim them......
