i have a jvc mp3 player, alpine dddrive '6 inch splits in front (rca front)running off 4 channel alpine amp (on 2 channels, 2 spare atm), 12 in sub in box running off factory premium amp (sub rca), and stock rear speakers running off stock amp (rear rca)...

my q is - Why when i turn up the volume, most of the time its ok till it gets to a certain level the sound gets all muddy sounding (muffled and distorted)

any ideas?

i am planning to run the sub off the alpine 4 channel soon to see how it sounds..

if ya wanna make your ears bleed you should get a pair of 18" subs lol

nah id get a bigger amp for the sub and a ported bot and it will be heaps louder

i have 2 subs running 2000 rms and its loud but falcons arent great for producing SPL because of the design

pm me if you need help

Some nice gear there, it should sound good.
DD drive are nice splits
What specifically sounds muddy? The sub? midbasses?

You may simply be expecting too much from the system. You will not get a lot of output from the factory amp. I would bridge the 2 rear channels of the Alpine amp and run the sub from that.

Run the rear fill from the headunit..

What pyro said...
What sub is it? max sure the box is the right size for the sub and forget the ported box, keep it sealed. You'll get much more accurate and punchy bass.

Loud bass is good as long as it doesn't drone all the time.

the factory amp doesnt have a x over for the 2 rear channels (pass all) the sub channel has tho (low pass) i would bridge the 2 spare channels on the alpine amp for now to run the sub and as pyroay said run the rears of the HU but fading more to the front.

im guessing that you havent got the power to drive the system to that level most lieky due to the stock amps or alternatively the speakers (rear stockies) cant take being pumped up and start to distort.
what head unit u running, shx705/550 etc.??? and amp models and features etc???

stock speakers sound better than alpines  think it could be the RCA cables as they are about ten years old   except for the one to the stock amp and speakers - thats a newbie

ok system stats:
Deck : JVC KD-SH99R
Amp1 : Alpine V12 MRV F405
Amp2 : Stock EF Fairmont Ghia
Rear spkr: Stock EF Fairmont Ghia
Frnt spkr : Alpine DDC-F17A DDDrive
Sub : Pioneer 12 inch TS-W303
