hey guys,

im just wondering if the best stuff to make a sub box out of is MDF? and if so is there a certain thickness i.e. would 12mm MDF be fine? its only holding one sub....thats 1200wrms :P

also il be talkin to the manufacterers wednesday when i pick it up, but does anyone have personal opinions regarding whether to use a box that is sealed/ported/slotted? i have read that sealed has tighter bass than ported however haven't found any info regarding slotted boxes. oh and i am looking for SQ not SPL.

**i am now also wondering what people use for a fake floor in their boot install that's transparent...is it just usually perspex??**

cheers nick

what sub is it?

if you're feeding 1200wrms into the sub, 12mm is just a little thin..... look at 19mm+ IMO

porting a box is not easy so if you cant get the proper specs and someone to help you I would just go sealed. Having said that a ported box will play a lot louder (well when i cover the port on my home sub its a lot more quiet)

it will b much better to port it so the cone has no pressure behind it when you are pushing it hard.

i use 24mm with my twin kicker L7's and i wouldnt use anything less

yeah mine has 4" ports and 3" in the actual slot itself. best to look at the sub manufacturers specs for what port is best for u that way it is suited to the sub

If you seal it the pressure build up behind the sub will help you not overpower your sub because it acts as a buffer. Ported boxes will produce more SPL but "generally" a sealed box is better for SQ. It's a lot easier to stuff up a ported box, with a sealed box you just have to get the volume roughly right.

Yeh dude just thin/thick perspex all ya need - can add some mirror contact to the inside or actual mirrors, neon lighting, fans for amps what ever ya want.
