Hey guys, im looking at getting some new subs but i need your help on a few issues, (i dont really know to much about the technical side so if i ask stupid questions im still learning )
I have this kenwood 25th anniversary xxv-03A mono sub-woofer amplifier Highlights: mono subwoofer car amplifier 533 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (919 watts x 1 at 2 ohms) 1000 watts RMS x 1 at 1 ohm (1 ohm stable) Now im looking at getting 2 12 inch dvc 4 ohm alpine type s sws-12d4 subs that have 500 rms each. Now ive been told that these will work great with this amp if i wire them up as 2 ohm dvc through 1 channel at 2 ohms. Ive heard that i cant do this if my amp is not stable at 2 ohms!!, but mine is stable at 1 ohm. Can this be done at 2 ohms? If its all ok how do i wire them up this way? Ive tryed searching the net but couldn't find much i didnt really know what i was looking for. Any Help on this topic will be much appreciated Cheers Lowlane98 |

If your amp is 2 ohm stable then it will be fine. Wire them up so the positive and negative on each speaker go to the 1 channel on your amp. Simply if you wire them in parralel, i.e 2 speakers going to the one output you will half the impedance. If you wire the positive of one sub and the negative of the other sub to 1 channel and then run a speaker wire connecting the unconnected plugs on each sub you will add them.
Once again, and yes it gets really complicated with more formula's, if you connect 2 speakers to one channel you will half the impedance (ohm) and if your amps 2 ohm stable you will be fine. |

OK that has help me understand it a little better with the wiring side, but my amp is 1 ohm stable, Can i still wire it this way.
Thanks Lowlane98 |

ok the correct answer is you can either run the amp at 4ohms or 1ohm. If your amp is 1ohm stable then its ok, however i personally would have it turned down just in case

If he runs 2 X 4ohm speakers in parallel they will be 2 ohm, not 1. 4+4=8, 4X4=16..... 8 goes into 16 twice, so its 2 ohm. Unless the subs are 2 ohm each there is no way its 1 ohm.

Great way to blow an amp |

i think im missing somthing here.. lol.
just to confirm.. the 4 + and - running down to 1 + and - is a 4 channel amp running down to one sub?

Great way to blow an amp If the amp is 1Ohm stable than no. it's the best way to get maximum power from it. Most amps (theres a select few with regulated power supplies), supply more power the lower the load you present it. i.e. a 1000W amp, may do 450@5Ohm, 700@2 and 1000@1. Check to make sure the amp IS listed as being stable for the load you want to present it. Otherwise yes you risk blowing the amp. or if it's well built it'll exceed it's listed power, and run hot but survive. The picture shows is how to wire up 2 4ohm DVC subs to get a 1Ohm load. each voice coil in parallel 4 parallel with 4 gives 2Ohm, and each of those 2s in parallel gives you 1Ohm.

This is getting confusing lol, can someone show me how to wire them up the best way to get the most out of the subs and my amp
Is there a way of wiring them down into 2 ohm? and putting a 2 ohm load on the amp? Or should i get the subs in 2 ohm and wire them down as 1 ohm? I just want to get the most out of my gear. Cheers Lowlane98 |

Your confusing the bloke lol. And the amp is 1ohm stable !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Your amp is stable to run in 1ohm mode, however in my opinion it will still run very hot like data_mine said. So what you are better off doing is still getting the 2x alpine's, BUT GET THE DUAL 2 OHM VERSION which is part number SWS-12D2. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Alpine-Type-S-S ... 0581975040 This way you can wire them up specifically to run the amp in 2ohm mode, which means you still are pumping out 919wrms and the amp will be running cooler and may last longer. But only if you get the 2ohm voice coil versions (SWS-12D2) and WIRE THEM UP EXACTLY AS DIAGRAM BELOW |

Or if you want to use both voice coils like this bloke is desperate to do why not run them in series and then out to parallel........ Would have been more simple to tell the bloke to connect the way I said. All you have done is told him how to wire them up to be 1 ohm and yeah not only will the amp run hot but you will f**k the subs running them at that volume.
I have a ported box at home running a single 12" Response sub off a Kenwood 75 watt rms 8 ohm amp and it shakes the house...... I dont think going the way of trying to get more power out of the sub is the way to go dude. I also sent an attachment ( without the lovely picture), heaps more info is out there....... and Im sorry but almost all experts would rather run both speakers a 2 ohm than a completely unstable 1 ohm |

All a sub is designed to do is move air, thats it.
Here is a VERY simple article that should explain it all in easy terms for someone who's new to speaker connections. Its not as easy as you think and your bound these formula's no matter if its car or home. http://termpro.com/asp/pubs.asp?ID=124 |
