Hey guys anyone done it and whats involved. I got the slimline one and would like to know whats involved with power conversion and s**t because i know they changed something so it can go in a car easily.

I've actually posted about this before....
Something to do with buying a 12V to 8.5 volt DC-DC converter. I never got a clear-cut response. Such a thing should exist - whether you make it or buy it. Try d**k / jaycar. |

Sony might have produced a cigarete lighter adapter for it like they did for the PSone's. You can maybe use that or mod it to hard wire it in.

The circuits in most consoles and computers are pretty sensetive. The power supply typically smooths out the power as well as correcting the voltage.
Correcting the voltage alone is not likely to be enough. Somebody with more of a technical understanding could probably word this more accurately....

just had a look at the transformer, it says 8.5 volt 5.65 amp.
So i will have a look at jaycar. |

My mate runs a PS2 in his ELG GLi. A messy bunch of wires running around inverters and stuff like that.

no, stepping down the voltage is not sufficient, as the voltage will vary when you do certain things (like when you first flick on your headlights or flash your highbeams) youd need a big capacitor to smooth out the voltage, plus the power system in a car isnt regulated (meaning at a low current draw the voltage will rise, and vice versa) not good for something expecting a steady voltage.
hmmmm, those would be mighty big resistors, the power draw for the PS2 is a good 50watts itself (peak), and maybe another 35 watts for the resistors lowering the voltage. my figures might be waaaaay off - especially the 35 watts for the resitors, but you get the idea. The transformer your looking for will probably be some kind of switchmode regulated unit (or a gigantic linear one)

I have a PS2 in my car which sits under the passengers seat in an MDF surround. The power inverter sits under the drivers seat in which the PS2 power plug runs under the seat and plugs in, like in your home. The inverter is run straight from the battery.
The inverter cost me about $80 and it converts 12v to 240v and the one i got is capable of powering 150watts. Available from jaycar and d**k.

Can't you read? A four year old knows that A BIG RED CROSS is BAD! That's because the original PS2 doesn't have DC input. That's why the BIG RED CROSS is through the picture of the old one. NOT through the picture of the new one. Now why would they advertise an adapter for (top left hand corner) "items compatible with SONY PS2/ PStwo" that is not compatible with a SONY PS2? Think..... |
