1985 Ford Meteor GC2 Ghia ---> $300 ---> Need new speakers!
Any suggestions? There are two 6" bays in the back for some speakers and I am planning on sticking some 6" in the front doors. I'm most likely going to go with some splits for the front, just not sure what brand, etc. Same goes for the back. Need some suggestions so I don't go out and get some crappy brand....again  But then again last time I was a noob.
Atm I'm running some Boss Audio BA-64 6" co-axials in the back and some 4" JVC co-axials in the front (Yes, I know....sad) I'm going to get rid of these heaps and get myself some high quality s**t 
So, yes, any suggestions guys? |

i have alpine splits in the front of mine, and they sound bloody fantastic.
just go to a shop (not supercheap!!) and listen to some of the better brand stuff. Take a good CD and go for gold. budget and what you really want will be the telling factors. |

I'll definately go the 6" splits for the front provided I can get skin off the front door and the plastic underneath it. Definately will keep the Apline's in mind. For the rear I'm trying to find some deep cone 6"s. Not sure if 6" splits would be a good idea for the rear parcel shelf though. Since I have the Clarion SB12XB 12" dual subs and the Clarion APX1300 monoblock amplifier driving them, I'm considering going Clarion-dedicated and getting some Clarion speakers to suit (I kinda like consistency for some reason). Not exactly 100% sure if I should though. Never the less, I'll do what you suggested and go around and have a listen to different speakers. Do you know which model your Alpines are? |

ive bought a set of pioneer 250 watt splits and i reckon they sound unreal and the price i got them at was even better

Do you know which model your Alpines are? personally, i wouldnt run splits in the back, as i want the nice crystal clear sound to be coming from in front of me. I just have a set of kenwood 3 ways in the back. They dont go too badly for that kinda job. As far as buying all one brand... i'd try buying for sound (which you will end up doing by taking a CD round), dont stress about brand, unless they are going to pay you for advertising their gear!! lol. I have pioneer, kenwood, clarion and alpine in my system! 
My alpines are (look below in sig, lol) SPS-171A 's I got them for an awesome price and they sound sweet as. |

Soundstream... for the price they s**t all over Pioneers and anything else in their price range... and they look sweet... I just bought a pair of 6.5" Soundstreams for $100 and they are flippin awesome. They are easy to mount as well, only a 2.5" mounting depth.

hrmm, Soundstream aren't the same as they were 8 yrs ago. I've had 2 sets and recently and would go pioneer splits anyday.
Im a big fan of these JBL GTO series for 6" at around $100rrp

Interesting....
So would you guys recommend I leave my BOSS BA-64 6" 4-way coaxials as they are in the rear parcel shelf and just go the splits for the front? They sound good, rumble the back pretty good with very little distortion so I guess they are sufficient for my needs. Also, with the subs that I have, I have a 50 litre LPG tank in the boot of my car. Will that adversely effect the low frequency sound that enters the cabin? I read somewhere that low frequency sounds have the ability to travel through solids much more readily than high frequency sounds. Is this true? |

Sound travels through denser objects faster than they do through less dense objects. So yes, the sound will travel very slightly faster into your cabin THEORETICALLY. Don't know about the varying frequencies though.
As for your speakers, having a good set of 6.5" splits up the front make a world of difference to your system as they are predominately what you hear. The Boss speakers up the back would do for now but I've never been a massive fan of Boss stuff... Even just a lesser pair of Pioneers, JBLs or something like that will improve your sound a heck of a lot.

Tweeters have to be angled perfectly for optimum sound quality. Have a bit of a read of aarons (pyroay) tute in the docouments section. they are really handy. |

I found one though although it consumes almost all the bootspace that I have. I worked it out.....I can fit one slab of beer in the boot tops!
