hey all,
i hopped in my car today after work and turned the radio on, only to hear a slight popping sound from the left front speaker then nothing, the unit still works perfectly, but no sound comes from any speaker, if i turn the unit off then back on, i hear the same slight pop then nothing...ive checked the fuse on the headunit, and the ones with all the other fuses and they are all intact, i checked all the connections and everything is still connected... any ideas? ive even unplugged it so that it would reset to defaults but that didnt achieve anything...its still under warranty so thats no problem, but id rather not go without it for god knows how long... |

check all ur speakers are earthing out somehow...
and u have most prob blown the outputs... it happened on my pioneer h/u cause the back speakers had broken and earthed out on the frame of the car....so check everythin

how do you check if the speakers are earthing? is it the same as the head unit earth? as that is still connected...

check if there are loose wires at the speaker terminals...a loose wire may have come in contact with the metal body and shorted.
if all fails then I think Pulco is correct with your H/U having it's outputs blown. stupid question...is it on mute? phong =P~

due to the hot weather the HU might also go into saftey mode so it don't fry the mosfet. I mean I have only seen that happen on Amplifiers never in H/Us but with the advanced HU technology...I think it may be possible too...assuming it is hot weather where you are. output cannot be blown I don't think if the speaker still makes a popping noise. phong =P~

well it did get up to and possible past 40 degrees today, and my car was sitting in the sun, and when i got the headunit out to check the connections it was boiling hot..so maybe it has gone into some kind of safety mode, althought i dont recall reading about one in the manual... i just tryed connecting up one of the old ford speakers straight up to the back of the unit, but got no sound...so...i dunno..might try it a bit later when it cools down

id say u have blown the outputs dude...
with mine the connector on the rear speakers fell off the actual speaker and earthed on the parcel shelf...which blew the outputs... its about 180 bucks to get it repaired...or its about 230 for another descent pioneer h/u

As said, it'll be most likely one of two things:
- A speaker wire is shorted to ground (check resistance from every speaker wire to ground, should be open circuit) - The output IC has blown, usually from the above or from speaker wires touching each other. (disconnect all speaker wires from rear of head unit and measure the DC voltage from ground to each speaker wire coming from the head unit while it's turned on, it should be half the supply, so about 6.5v) |

ahh ok dang...i'll have a look tomoz at all the speakers as its a bit late now...so this kind of thing isnt covered under warranty?

no sorry that is not covered by warranty, 40 deg heat in the sun shouldnt blow the outputs, altho if the were already hot and you cranked it , they might not have been able to dissipate heat. try calling pioneer service on monday and one of the tecs will help you out. 1800 988 268

it wont be covered by warranty unless u are using new speakers and they have caused it and it was installed professional not by urself...
the heat wouldnt have effected it...

Sounds like possible burnt tracks on your outputs due to heat and possible earthing, can be costly to repair. Head units in the mid range are pretty much disposable items these days, suggest getting a new 1 instead of repairing.

pulco if that was the case then it would have to be covered by the store that did it for u, not by the manufacturer. Install faults aren't covered by pioneer
