For me personally Pioneer go for too much bling before sound quality...

Actually...Pioneer head units are pretty good. Their splits are pretty good too. Only down side to Pioneer head units, is the RCA thing that tends to stuff up for some people.

I have always used Pioneer gear and haven't had many issues and the sound quality aren't the bomb diggedy, but are above average and sometimes better then some more expensive brands...usually all comes down to tuning and how speakers/subwoofers are mounted and how well.

For the price...I reckon Pioneer are doing pretty well.

There is pretty good and then there is excellent and I agree that Pioneer is pretty good....
I use Pioneer home audio equipment mainly because I can't afford the good stuff.....

There is always a trade off.

Subwoofers resistence is measured in ohms.
if you run 2 subs of the same resistance in parallel then the resistance is halved.
less resistance to the amplifier means it will output more poqer but at the same time it's dampening factor drops (amplifiers ability to control speaker movement)

Most digital amps have reasonably low dampening factor anyway and @ 2ohms and 1ohm it is even lower.

When resistance is lowered amps will also draw more power and run hotter.

Soundstream XXX is not an SQ amp by a long way.

For just SQ around 500rms is fine to a single 12" or 2 x 12's if you need heaps of bass and have the space.

There are quite a few brands out there that offer good monoblocks.

I didn't think that the XXX was SQ as it has poor STN at 80db and a dampening factor of 350.

The Tarantula monoblock sounds better I think if you can still get them. Much less power though.

Specifications
Output Power: 4 ohm 2000
2 ohm 2000
Bridged @ 4 ohm N/A

THD: <0.02%
Freq. Resp. 20 - 500Hz
S/N Ratio >115dB
Damping Factor >500
Input Sens. 300mV - 5.0V
Crossover Slope 24dB
Crossover Freq. 35 - 500
Dimensions 19 x 14 x 5.5

Next question while I am here. With these two subs rated at 800wRMS, when they are wire to the one amp the amp only needs to run 800wRMS doesn't it? It doesn't double or halve at all like the impedance?

They will run at 90db or more with only 1watt.
It depends on how loud you want them to operate and what enclosure they are in.
They are rated by the manufacturer to be able to handle upto 800rms each, so 2 of them can handle 1,600rms.

Impedence is a function of how you wire them, series or parallel and if they are single or dual voice coil. I would suggest with those 2 subs 600-800rms would be plenty to run them quite loud while still allowing plenty of headroom.

The above amp would do the job fine.

Thanks mate. I understand the way things work with impedance but just so I understand with the power handling. Say for example that these two subs were wired in series (forgetting about dual voice coils for now) I could have an amp putting out 1600 watts through the circuit and they would be fine handling that even though they are only rated at 800watts? Wouldn't each sub see 1600 watts in this example?

Does not matter if you go series or parallel, all power produced by the amp will be shared between them.
It's just that the amp is likely to produce more power at lower impedence.

Ok next question while I am sitting here drawing parallel and series circuits. If I was to wire them up for a 4 Ohm load and had an amp capable of 1600 watts at 4 Ohm. Then I wired them to be 1 Ohm on the same amp the amp would try and produce roughly 6000 watts and kill the subs correct? Also when the subs are rated at 800 RMS is this per voice coil for dual voice coils or per sub? I am guessing per sub.

yeah 800wrms would be for each sub...If the amp makes over 1600wrms @ 4ohms than you should definately run it at 4 ohms as amp will have greater control over subs (less THD)....and 1600wrms is a lot of volume.

are your subs DVC with 4ohms each coil? if so that's good because you can run 2 of them at 4ohms by wiring the two voice coils of each sub in parallel, then each sub in series (or the other way around) to give you overall impedence of 4ohms.

Also with the scenario you posted above, if you wired it to run at 1ohm it may kill the sub depending on how you crank it. If you had it wired at 1ohm but never turned it up past the point the subs could handle you would be sweet.

I am pretty sure that they are 4 ohms each coil but I am gonna have to check tonight now.
