I'm looking at a 2 battery setup with an automatic cutoff, that'll disconnect the second batt when there's no charge voltage (ie less than about 13v).

Good stuff...not that hard to setup either or you can have the relay link the batteries say if your starter battery was flat to then kick in the 2nd battery to start the car and assist charge the dead one.

U can just have them setup too so that the 2nd only ever kicks in when the car is running not just accessory mode

Yeah that's the plan, I've built a voltage switch that'll only connect the second battery when the alternators going - and good - putting out at least 13.5v.

I hadn't thought about a 'override' switch to force a connection should the main die.

Yeah that sounds about right for a D34 slightly cheaper....mate should fit in the existing battery bay no problem...or with slight mods

Just ask around dude see if any places have em on special and save your self a few $$$ like any mod this one is worth the cash and will last like 3 times longer than any other conventional battery

Ah well; went to check out some places today; id reccomend ARB i think it is in Dandenong; they do 4x4 accessories and did me 350 on a yellow top D34 and did it without any twisting of arms and with a great friendly attitude lol.
Id even go back if i had a 4x4 n needed some of their other stuff!

Hear how fast it turns over when you turn key now; phoar, back in business!

lol yea i put mine in last night (have been away fishing) and dam does she turn over now!
Dimming has greatly been reduced on bass hits! i also upgraded my earth wire.

Also was very easy to fit, took out the battery box and gave the factory bracket a bit of a bend and DONE!

D34 ended up costing me $300 which i was happy about! 8-)

$300 is a great price. RRP is a touch over $400 these days.

Still, they're worth every dollar of that RRP anyway :D

Awesome price i rekon, they didnt make money on you i bet..

My lights dont fade anymore, my car always starts and i can now watch movies without having to worry about starting car every 20min LOL

Peace of mind and looks snazzy in engine bay too; just propped it up off the bottom of the battery base for breather and to leval it to orig height; like stock it looks.

For the $400 do they LAST. ie. will you be replacing them every 2-3 years like a normal battery.

No they should last 6years plus .... apparently and this has happened to me but ive spoken to heaps of battery gurus and the optimas etc should last 2-3 times longer than a conventional battery and if they are going to fault it will be in the first few months...my yellow top had a dead cell after 2 months but the replacement has been fine for longer than that now and it gets hammered..believe me :P
