Hey everyone, new to the site, so this is more or less an intro, but I also have a small question to ask.
I recently bought a 93/94ED Futura off a mechanic, great condition etc, plenty of spares, but the sound system is bone stock apart from a new headunit. My question was, what brand/type/size speakers should I put in the parcel shelf? Should I replace the stock 6" with another set of 6"? or somehow try and put some 6x9s up there? If it's the second option please tell me how also. Thanks everyone and I'll get pics of my car up ASAP. It's my first car and I'm still on my L's for another couple of days.

pauly_pizza is right...if you want to find out more on what to do you should do a search...most questions have been answered.
But since you already started the post I might as well reply. It is less hassle for you to buy another set of 6" since they would just drop straight in. The sound would be much better then the stock. If you want a little bit of bass you could go with 6 x 9s though they are a hassle to fit unless you use spacers...and it is illegal to cut the metal so hence the hassle if you want to flush with the parcel shelf. Alternatively you can make your own parcel shelf cover thingy with a raised area for the 6 x 9s. If you don't plan on getting spacers or making a custom parcel shelf...I suggest you just get some good 6"S and then put pop them straight it. Easier, Cheaper and friendlier. phong =P~ EDIT: Thanks xhute0  what would I do without you

6x9's in boxes? bolting the boxes into the parcel shelf covering the old 6 holes?

I think I'll just get some 6's and if i want bass I'll get an amp and hook up my 15" sub.
Is it a simple swap job for replacing 6's? I've never installed car audio before so say it in lamens terms please.

its easy. On each 6" speaker there are 3 nuts/bolts. All you have to do is undo the nuts that hold down the speaker from either the boot (make sure you don't lock yourself in like someone did) or you can fold down the rear chairs and fiddle your hands underneath the parcel till you find it. I have found that they can be undone by hand but if they are tight obviouslt use a tool. Before you take the speaker out make sure you unplug the wires.
btw you might also need to solder wires to the new speakers or get some female plugs so you can plug them into the new ones instead of soldering. phong =P~

Thanks guys and yeah I've had a look so I know where those three little screws are, I have no idea what a female plug is though, but I presume I can get those from autobahn or supercheap?

Yeah you can buy them from any electronics store and auto store. When you go out to buy new speakers, look at the ones that are out and showing like they do at JB-HiFi. Pick it up and look underneath. you will see there is a postive and negative terminal...it has a spade like connection which the female plug slides into. so basically the spade like connection is the male plug, and the thing the male plugs into is the female plug...it's a pretty good terminology I say . It's better to get them because its easier...though I am unsure if connection is better then solder...may be debatable.
