I had 2 x 12" subs in the parcel shelf of my EA along with some mids and tweeters, was hella cool and lots of fun to cut whopping great big holes in the metal shelf.

I have premium sound in my ef ghia and it seems to go alright, i've got a 15inch sub i could put in but the factory stuff seems alright, just have a few parcel shelf rattles

the JLs aint bad but id go a decent rockford fosgate 8" woofer in the stock places with a custom pod nagled up on the shelf or underneath the shelf...what ever gets ya hard but still that way no parcel shelf mods meaning no legal issues or saftey.

The 8"s tho arent so much deep bass but very clear tight punchy lows they sound tuff in a mates ute...he had them mounted under the front seats very nice.

The alpine 8" woofer/amp/box package - part number SWD-2000 i think would be to difficult to mount properly and may not be as effective.

Id get the 8" rockford fosgate P38D2(2ohm) or P38D2(4ohm) woofer and a custom pod/box fabricated to get the most for ya money.

only as a seperate pre-boxed/amped item

afaik there is hardly anyone left who make a QUALITY 8" IB/freeair sub (one suitable for a parcelshelf application, as opposed to one requiring a box)
