Yeah they were for the Fairmont Ghias, or if you got the Premium Sound System installed, it was a basic 8 inch sub. AFAIK jaycar or some brand like that sell 8 inch subs, there ok cause they can get some of the frequencies that 6x9's miss, but your better off having 12" instead. Either way havin an 8" is better than nothing

you better off just getting a decent set of 6" speskers powed by a amp.\
i use to have a premo system in the ghia with a 8" sub and now have JL audio 6" 2way speaker in the back through a amp and they get a hell of a lot more bass then the 8" sub that once was there and also no distortion. just look at frequency response levels when buying speakers.

while JL audio are an excellent brand, they havent sold free-air subs on thier own for a few years, although as a horrendously expensive option, you can still get a pair of JL 8' freeair subs as part of thier BMW 3-series 'stealthbox"

I had 2 x 12" subs in the parcel shelf of my EA along with some mids and tweeters, was hella cool and lots of fun to cut whopping great big holes in the metal shelf.
