hey guys,

a month or so ago i replaced the ef premmo sound in my mont with an el unit. everythings going good until the other day when i had to use my highbeams, the sound crackles whilst they're on and the display turns off (not just dims).

i unplugged it all to see if i had missed anything, but it all looks right.

is there an earth wire or something i could be missing?

sounds like either and earthing issue, or that your battery isnt holding enough charge.

get yourself a multimeter, start your car, turn the sound up.. and check the voltage of the battery, then while you still have the probes on the terminals - get a friend to turn on the high beams and watch what the voltage does - if it continues to drop, it would mean your battery isnt big enough (or needs a top up of fluid, replacement) or it could also be a problem with your alternator

if the voltage coming from the battery stays consistant, but your head unit continues to play up, i would suggest its a problem with your wiring.

hope this helps ya out.

ahh, im thinking it may just be the battery then. as i think mines rooted. didnt think it'd be the battery because as soon as the car is running everythings ok. just starting it is the trouble

it cant do any harm to check it with a multimeter though, it doesnt cost you anything - and it confirms/eliminates one possibility...
