Have had this problem for a while where one head light would not turn on. If i got out and then tapped it on the outside it would come on.
The other day i turn the headlights on and both didnt work. I had to tap both lights for them to come on. I ve checked to make sure both bulbs are connected proper. Everything seems fine. The lights now turn off randomly when im driving as well. Have checked the cut out as well. Help !!!!

Globe connections are the obvious one... relays... i.e. check if loose.

love the holden joke lol ... so obviously everything isn't fine so when you say you've check the bulbs are connected proper (Martin is going to grill you for that) are you checking the plugs on the back of the light or the bulbs fitted into their socket - could be an earthing problem?? If they turn on and off when you are driving it is vibrations that is causing them to loose connection - I suggest having anothe rlook at them and even checking the plugs - you might have faulty spade plugs inside those???
