Installed my inverter today (300w continuous modified sine wave), and there is a shocking 'hiss' through the speakers....if i connect the PS2 to a powerpoint rather than the inverter all is fine, but when i connect it to the inverter it hisses...I've run the power cables well away from all audio cables, is it possible that i need a pure sine wave inverter? or could i simply use a 'car stereo line isolation transformer (Jaycar STOCK-CODE: AA3085)? Any info will be greatly appreciated....

Basicly there are 2 types of invertes out there.
The ones they make for fridfes and stuff with heaps of noise and the good ones with no noise. There is a relitavily inexpensive haigh one on the market that has almost no noise. Have a shop around and see if you can try before you buy.

is the inverter running thru the cigarette lighter, or from an existing ignition source ?
if this is the case run power straight to the battery, and if you want igniiton power only, use a relay to do this. you can get interference noise from car electricals when using ignition.

Nope, Power's straight from the Battery, I'm beginning to think it may be the inverter itself...if anyone has experience with noise like this it'd be good to hear any idea's or suggestions?

nop, when I put mine in I first ran it off the cig lighter and got noise on my lcd screen, I then whored for some random 12v wires I found and gleaned up a tidy groud point and all noise went away

How much do noise suppressors cost, and what do you run them between?

Thanks for all the invo guys, from what i can see it was that the inverter was too close to the PS2...moved it away, and the noise dissappeared. Put it back, noise came back. Interferance of some kind? Got me beat. Anyhoo...thanks guys

Daniel, from what i understand these are some kind of magnetic device. They usually go in between the power source and the device (i.e. tapped into the +ve wire). Get them from Jaycar, i think they're around $10-$15.

so your going
12VDC -> 240V AC -> 12VDC dim-witt.asi9.org/ps2.html i think that gives u the document to convert it so you can go from the cigarete lighter
