nope, dont go well. Basically the ignition has to be on because the lock barrel is coded to the ECU. The only way ive heard around it is to use a second barrel, and have that up under the dash, and go from there. Try pming datamine, unless he decides to come into this thread :P

I'd like to hear some prices too been looking around for remote start alarms, and I've heard the same prob with smartlock but I've had this bizarre intermittent electrical fault in my car where the power to the ECU drops out but by the time I get a meter near it, it always seems to come good so I got jack with it and decided to run ignition power from the switch through a relay to supply power directly to the ECU. Now I can pull the keys out of the ignition and the car still runs, there seems to be a leakage back to the ignition and it keeps itself powered.
So on the w/e I'm gonna see if I can start the thing by jumping power to the ECU then hit the starter relay and see what happens, if it works I don't need to worry about smartlock then.. :D

Indeed, i can vouch 1st hand if you get the right equipment, the smartlock interaction box, you can use the remote start with no probs..
I have been using mine for bout, few months, time flys and NOT one issue with smartlock.
There is also a switch hidden in the car so that it can only be started by remote and then key inserted or start with key or remote.
Viper 791 with smartlock interaction box..
Not sure what price the alarms are retailing for now, but the box is roughly 250-300.
