Looking at replacing my stock speakers. I ahve Pioneer 6x9's here at home in perfect condition.
I also ahve a 12" Xplod sub. Wondering what you uys think is best to repalce with, is it worth using the 6x9's or go some good 6"s? I listen to alot of music with bass so something good and heavy duty. |

i went for 6x9's in the back, not for any perticular reason, only because i got them off a mate for nothing, there a nice set of pioneers and they sound good. i had to use raisers because of the gas tank in the boot, i didnt have enough clearance to mount them properly but i no complain
for the front i went for splits which are also pioneer and again they sound nice. id think nice set of splits in the rear could work rather well. gotta be good quality tho! cheers ryan |

people normally only choose 6x9's over 6's to get more bass, but when ya have a sub there is no need for more bass so no need for 6x9's.

I think you'll struggle to fit 6x9s in the parcel shelf without spacers... cutting the shelf is a no-no...
Maybe find someone to trade the 6x9's with?

yep - i tried with a spare set i had around here, and you'd def need spacers - far too much effort if you ask me eh - just get a decent set of 6's, and you'll be more than happy

most definatly. if your going to run a sub, then 6" is all you will ever need in the back. the only task that rear speakers have in a larger style system is to fill sound for rear passangers. my advice would be to focus on the front speakers, splits is they way to go, and then an amp to power them and the sub. the way i would be going in your case is to get a fairly high powered 4 channel, Jaycar Electronics have an awesome 4x100watts rms amp for a fair bit under $500, and running the fronts and sub off that, and the rears simply off the hu. simplest way i would think

had a mate who had splits in the rear as well as in the front of his ED XR8 SPRINT. love that car, anyways, the clarity was just awesome in the rear, especially when watching dvd's on his flip out screen.

Go the 6" speakers. 6x9 are old school and fitting spacers will only make your rear shelf look tacky.

Ended up going with some Pioneer 6x9's at the back on spacers. Looks tacky ATm but once I recover the parcel shelf in black fabric it should look sweet (black spacers). Also repalced my front 6's with Pioneer, keep the theme through. Nice differnce to normal gray speakers. Got my sub working to!

I would have just put new 6' speakers in personally, much better look and its a perfect balance if your going to put a sub in! But each to thier own.
However if i werent going to put in a sub then 6'9's would of definately been a popular choice insted. Only way to make the 6'9's look nicer on the parcel shelf would be to get someone to make up a custom parcel shelf for ya, so they are flush mounted nicely. better sound and deeper bass too. I did this with my XF and you wouldnt believe the difference it made!!!

im trying to find out where the front speaker wire branches off to the front tweeters, annoying.. Hmmm my dodgy wiring is already questioned. Umm I cut the loom off, and spliced open the wires to expose the copper underneath. Then poked the wire through the little holes on the speakers, sticking the positive connection to the positive speaker terminal. Then electrical taped it around and hey presto, it worked. Does that help? |
