HI Guys,
I have been doing my research to upgrade the BA ICC to DVD player. I decided against ASL as they seem expensive for what seems to be a plug adapter of sort.... As the unit itself costs 180 on carvonerters. What i need to know is where do i connect the RGB out pins to get to the ICC display? And what pins do i tap into? ONe of these work http://www.carconverters.com.au/news/13.html I saw members on here using it, notably Lukeyson, data_mine. I want to use it soley for DVD player, will get an aftermarket player which can be switched to NTSC only, have an Pioneer one in mind... So does anyone have further info on the pins i need to connect, and maybe the quality of the stock display compared to aftermarket flip out dvd... Thanks Michael. |

I think this one is the one I've got (it's been many years since I bought it) http://www.carconverters.com.au/product ... r/236.html
You need to find the video input (sat-nav) wires to the ICC. It's a 8-pin connector on the ICC for that. Attachment:

Sounds good, would i have to solder the joints or can they sit there firmly?
Glad i kept looking into this screen business, ASL too much. Whats the vid quality compared to pop out DVD? Little lower? Or same? I have an early BA, i hope all the ICCs were the same. |

Always solder connections (or use proper connectors). Or you'll be forever tracking down dodgyness as the day to day vibration of being in a car causes problems.
The ICC screen is pretty damn good actually. Compared to what was a $3000 Pioneer 1DIN flip out unit, the ICC screen IMHO was better quality (but smaller).

I actually did things the expensive way, started with the ASL kit, found it didn't play PAL sources (which I needed, and really this is Australia not US/Japan, no need for NTSC here).
So had the cabling from the ASL kit when I bought the carconvertors unit.

Ah damn, do you have any pics of install by any chance? Do i have to remove the whole ICC to do this? Pretty keen now i have heard back from someone to confrim what i thought was true. This is the best way compared to those Alpine units and the ASL.
Just need an idea for this converter... / Adapter... Hmmm |

nah, the plugs you need are on the bottom of the ICC, accessible once you get the tissue box holder out of the way.

Ah thats great, ill open it up and have a look before i buy anything. Maybe ill buy the head unit and do that, while im there, got a dvd in there atm so shouldnt be too hard.
Really keen on seeing what this plug looks like, want to get a decent harness, there has to be a plug type / code or something... Unless soldering really is easyily done, but i doubt... |

As I'm stripping out all the stereo gear in my car, I took these snaps for you.
The blue/black wire you see is the video select wire, it goes to a switch, which is grounded (switch the ground connection).
