personally i don't like the headrest ones, prefer the money spent on a large roof mount, so much more entertaining

Yeah same here - it makes for a more stealth install too IMHO.

Unless you have head rest covers custom made the same color as the seats, for when your not using them. Would be perfect, it's what I'm thinking of doing myself.

Sorry took me a while to see this post.
I'm bmerigan.
Also, sorry i don't have in-progress photos. too excited to stop. Wished for them many times.

1st. There is a frame inside the headrest. basically, the two legs sticking out of the headrest are actually the same piece of rod, it curves over in a U shape.

You mark the size hole you want, a fraction smaller than the screen.
Cut a cross in the fabric and peel it back, DONT cut it all off.
Then start hacking out all the foam in a nice square hole.
I used an Alpine mounting kit for mine. Its a plastic "cradle" that the screen will clip in to.
Once the hole is the right size, fold the material in, push in the "cradle" and cable tie it to the headrest frame.

Running the cable was a prick, but it just goes down the inside of the seat.

I made a cover to go over my headrests, like a sock, out of car upholstery material. It slides over and not even my passengers know they are there.

I could organise some more pics if required, but this is all i've got for now.

Very nice, is that a 7" screen or 5.5" in the head rest?

Keep it up.

Hey maximus, if you don't mind, whats a rough price on your WHOLE system. It looks insane and I wouldn't mind saving up for it...

So 6.5" screens might be touch and go?

Thanks for that.

LG: 6 1/2 inch could probably be done, but i would need to check to be sure.

NARE: the WHOLE system price.... when i add it up it's ridiculous.
headunit $2500
dvd $2500
surround processor/EQ $1000
splits $1300
subs $1100
amp $1600
nav $5000
tv tuner $800
screens $1500
centre $400ish
stacker $700
capacitor $250
a few black boxes $200 x2
cables & terminals $200?
wood/carpet/vinyl/replacement trims/sound deadener $500?

Probably $20,000 worth at retail prices, for the equipment. I did all the install, except for vacuum forming the doors.

I built it up over a number of years, and got a lot of stuff at really good prices so it's not like i actually walked into the shop with a suitcase full of cash. eg. I bought the stacker and amp 7 years ago.

My advice is simple:
1. DON'T ADD IT ALL UP!
2. Buy stuff that you won't need to replace/upgrade just add to.
3. Get to know the staff at your favourite retailer. Buy all your gear there and they'll look after you a bit.

Brilliant job Maximus. 2 questions. As I need to do this mod, I think the big fat screen option in the middle of the roof is too obvious to smart theives.

1. Can your head rests be extended up and down now, or are they fixed?

2. Would love to see some pics with the headest covers over them.

Cheers, you've made my day! 8-)
