Hey everyone
Ive got my amp and sub working now, so I went into bunnings yesterday and bought a sheet of MDF to seal off the cabin from the boot behind the seats. The sub will face through this sheet and fire directly into the cabin. I went into clark rubber to get some foam to seal under the parcel shelf and underneath the boot to stop vibrations. Can i see pics of how people have covered the MDF sheets that seal the boot Particularly those that can still acess the boot from the cabin. I also bought some carpet to cover the MDF and the sub box |

Why do you want to seal the boot off for? Are you running a freeair sub?

to stop the phasing problems with my 6.5inch speakers at higher volumes. It will also aid as a place to secure the sub.

ive heard of this "phasing" before...alot of ppl use it.. if some one can please explain it.

Hey man, how got it sorted yet? Mine is set up how you want it. Thanks to MRE40L I got mine sorted. I took off the covers over the rear suspension, and screwed a board across the back. After we got the size sorted and a sealed box made, we measured where to cut a 12.5 inch hole for the sub to stick thru once the box was screwed up against the board. I don't have any pics with me, but once i get home I'll show you.
it may be in my gallery already? Not sure. The sealed box plays a bit quieter than the old ported one did, but it sounds nicer and plays a lot deeper. Best of luck with it. There's hardly and Vibes in the boot either, so there is no need to sound deaden anything except maybe a bit of the parcel shelf. |

nah nothing is in your gallery yet.
My phasing problem is caused from the mid bass notes created by the 6.5 inch speakers being cancelled out by the "reverse air" at the back of the speakers. Doesnt really make sense but picture it like this, speakers make sound by pushing air at certain frequencies to make different notes, if the air is being pushed one way and sucked back the other the note cancels out. In the case of my car only the mid-bass notes from the speakers on my parcel shelf are being canceled out because they have the required wavelength to be cancelled out. Most people will have some sort of phasing problem in their car but just dont know what it is, cant hear it, couldnt tell the difference or think its a problem with their speakers. I will solve this problem by boxing the rear speakers in the boot by creating a devide from the front and back of the speaker cone. This is done by sealing the boot from the cabin. The seats do not have sufficient sound deadening to do this at higher levels. So far i have the MDF cut out but havent had time to finish the cutting and carpet ect. Will post pics when its done maybe some progress pics. |

Why don't you high pass your 6.5's. your sub should be low passed already.
I would also try reversing the phase of your sub. I was able to do this through my head unit and found it made a huge difference. Will only take a few minutes to check out anyways |

I wouold be very supprised if youo get any cancellation from your 6.5" with your sub. They produce so loittle bas anyway it wont matter.
I would roll the resrs off at 100htz anyway... Here is a pic of my old set-up which i think is what your looking for... This is my 15" sub and amp

The vibrations of the sub box can shake the circut boards of the amps which some people believe can cause issues. I have seen many installs with amps mounted to sub boxes and had no problems.
In my case the sub and sub box are a seperate item not connected to the amp. The face shoown is simply a face panel which makes it look all intergrated. If you look closlety you will see the power and earth for the amp in the lower middle section they go throuogh the trim panel and then oto the b attery and odo not ogo into the sub nox or anything...

thats what i was after, did you use foam under the carpet?
At the moment i have no control over the speakers execpt for basic 3 band equalising on the headunit and fading and balancing. |

No i did not use foam just the carpet over the mdf...

does mounting your sub towards the front of the car like that get u deeper sound or would it be better to mount it facing the other way??

doesnt effect the frequencies played but facing it backwards usually makes it louder but "muddier" whilst facing forwards increases SQ
