Hey all,
A mate (who knows nothing about speakers) bought me a pair of nice 6x9" speakers for my b'day... Problem is that his cuz (who's only 10 yr old) pushed in the centre little dome (dunno the name, but its the little chrome dome in the centre) of the speaker... Was wondering is there any way to pop back out the centre; or is all lost and the only thing to do with em is to throw 'em out and buy another pair? Cheers |

if he pushed them in.....it would still work...i have heard some people managed to pop it back out by putting a sudden thud on the speaker when its plugged in and all..but of course it might wreck something along the progress......
i think thats the only way I can think off.

I done the same with my old s**t sub so I got a pin, Bent the end over, pricked a hole into the caved in area and then plucked it out. You pretty much couldnt tell it was pushed in.
I have a mate who doesnt have a cone on his sub at all. It fell off some how. It looks rooted but it still works. cheers, Nathan |

So its only there for looks? Thought it had a purpose... Spose it would for high-output systems, but I'm not that far... yet...
Its a 6x9", 3-way speaker, but it just looks gay, thats all. But then again, as long as it works as good as it does without being pushed in, its all good I spose Still open for tips but |

Get a piece of tape and try to use the sticky side to pull it out. It worked on my home stereo speakers when my lil cousing pushed it in too!

Sticky tapes a good idea, didn't think of it... Only problem is that this little cone thing is only about 16mm... So not even 2cm...
keep the ideas commin, cause you blokes havn't let me down on this site so far... Prefer to have too many ideas than not enough.. |

now heres an ideas man!!  nah this is bout the only real method that you arent running too bigger risk of damaging it...just a strong adhesive tape should do it...and if ya cant get it to popup back out dont worry about it...the speaker will still perform.

thanks for that, before I asked here I wasn't quite sure about the quality that would come out of 'em.
I'll try the tape but if that doesn't work, then hey as long as they still go alright then alls good! Thanks for the suggestions |

This might not work or it might, but on my smaller speaker I sucked the cone out.

i used blu-tac for mine, worked great. also depends on what type of centre dust cap you have... plastic ones will require blu-tac/tape and fabric you can use a needle to pop it out which i have also done

the speaker will work fine as usual, the cone in the center is just there for a dust cover!

Sticky tape, blu-tac, or a straw used to suck the surface are the methods i've seen used.
If you're talking about the tweeter on the 6x9's, it will cause them to operate differently to how they should as it is the tweeter's "cone" that is bent, but I doubt you will hear any difference as the tweeters on 6x9's aren't audiophile quality anyway. |

use a vacum cleaner and regulate it from the relief valve on the handle that should work , dont that a few times at work when speakers get crushed

On larger speakers you can put something long and thin, (like a small paint brush handle) done the centre of the speaker from the back, and push it out.
Like 'cooki-monsta' said, it's just a dust cover.

Is that all it is? Well you learn something new every day... I'm guessing it stops dust from connecting with the inside of the magnet? Well thanks for the info
