Be best to put them in the inside of the quarter panels, I've seen them on the tailgate & because of there weight the tailgate won't hold itself up.
I've just got 6.5"'s in mine at the moment..

I had 6x9s in my EL wagon. Still left the 6" factory grills in place but had to make a plate to mount them.

got mine in the boot panel, and still stays up, mind you the plastic cover isn't on, meed to cut the holes out, might get round to it someday haha.
Also thinking of doing some sort of custom boot box install, behind the rear seats, got a station wagon, so i'll think more and draw up a few designs first lol |

yea im a bit worried about putting 7x10s or 8 inch speakers in the tailgate due to rattling and the shocks holding it up it has new ones but i dont want to load it much i think depends if it will hold it is there room for 8 inch in the side panels

I painted some sound deadener inside the tailgate and it didnt rattle at all. Weight was never an issue either as I had them in my tailgate for a couple of years and didnt have to replace the struts once.
The speakers were mounted to one MDF panel which was mounted to the tailgate and covered in carpet.

Sounds more like you need some new tailgate struts then buddy. I've added a couple kilos of sound deadener to my tailgate, a rear spoiler and larger speakers and no dramas with my tailgate holding iself up! I reckon if you did some cutting and spacing you could gear speakers up to 8" round of 6x9" in there. |
