a mate of mine has a daewoo lanos hatch and he wants to put a new set of speakers in the back. they are 4*6" speakers (how gay is that!! ha ha) and we have found a set of replacments.

the thing is though, the factory daewoo mountings are not in the "standard" location like the replacement ones. so they wont bolt straight in.

we are trying to find some ways we can mount them up. my thought was having an mdf spacer between the speaker and the panel they bolt to, as there is heaps of depth under them.

has anyone got any other solutions?

he hasnt actually bought the speakers yet, so we might even end up getting some 6" or something if its going to be just as much work.

also, he has a new headunit to go in. does anyone know where we can find a wiring diagram for the factory loom?

cheers guys,
Nic

sedan, hatch, wagon? lol you dont tell us what it is.
my mate got 6x9's installed in his excel, they d/c his original speakers, and install the new ones in the "parcel tray" of his hatch.
if its a sedan, i'd use something to mark where the holes should be, and use a drill and drill the appropriate holes, and then just bolt them in, this is the reason i purchased pioneer spits for my rear speakers, they bolt straight in pretty much :P you could try finding out the make of the speakers, and try fitting some better after market ones of the same make, hoping the mounting points match up. ;)

lol, just read its a lanos, so i assume its a hatch.
d/c the factory speakers either side of the parcel shelf, and install new ones in the parcel shelf. be a hell of a lot easier, and if u want to reverse it, go get the shelf off the wreckers ;)

Also, if you can't find an adaptor to plug the new cd player into his car, then you'll need a multimeter, and know how to use it.
You only need to really find, a constant active, a switched (ignition) active, and earth and your speaker wires, which will be in pairs (usually).

If you're referring to a multimeter, then i'd probably try an electronics store, eg: d**k Smith's, Tandy, Jaycar, etc.
You couldprobably just get yourself a cheapie for about $10-$20.

parcel shelf will take it, umm dont know about the struts, you may or may not need to get them looked at. my mates cant hold his up, but his got a '90 excel. if that happens, just disconnect the strings that attatch to the lid/window thingy.
haha i actually did a good post drunk...simply amazing!

Yeah Autbarn or Supercheap should be able to get one in, as they may not stock that model on the shelf.
Best bet would be to go in and ask them if they do.

just letting you know that we got the speakers and h/u in sweet.

they actually sound pretty good and came out well.

head unit wiring had been cut for an aftermarket one which was in there anyway (we didnt realise cause it was so s**t!! lol) so that was an issue, but my mate found a wiring diagram on the net somewhere, so that worked out really well.

speakers ended up in the parcel shelf and looked quite good.

See pics:

Jigsaw of fury!!: we had to buy a jigsaw just for the job, so we (i cause i'm keeping it) didnt want to spend to much. ended up picking this one up for $18 at the warehouse and a soldering iron for 3. ha ha

Parcel shelf: Note the lovely horses we used to support the work... two uni chairs on my room verandah!! lol.

HU: Sorry bout the blurry pic, my hand wasnt steady enough... obviously

Nicco,

Did you consider 6x9's at all? I think your mate would've been much happier with the bass of a set of 6x9's than a 6 or 6.5" two way like them.......

.....but then if you are going for a sub in the short term, you won't need anything more than what is there!

we thought about it, but he is happy with how they sound, a little bit of equaliser goes a long way!! lol.

i dont think he even knows what he wants, but he got these for a good price.

i highly doubt he'll go a sub

Yeah, I know, but it is never quite the same when you use the equaliser to compensate for limited abilities of the hardware........ Having said that I used to do the same thing before I found the beuty of speakers over 10"! lol

I guess he'll never know what he is missing!

(Sucks to be him!) hahaha
