I want to get some splits for my EF xr6 and as i dont know much about car audio would like your opinions on which to get. I'll have a budget of about $200-400 (preferably closer to $300 mark 8-) ). Can anyone recommend the best type to get in this price bracket. Two i have been looking at is

1. Pioneer TS-C160R 6.5' ($345)
2. INFINITY Reference 6000CS 6.5' ($265)

Any other suggestions and do these prices seem reasonable?

and i've got a pair of the infinity's and i'm really happy! clearly happier than uglybob! see the grin on my face?

in all seriousness, give them both a listen, and see which one sounds best to your ears...

there is a lot of range within that price bracket, so let ur ears do the buying

agreed, just keep in mind with pioneer your payin for the brand, not really quality, they have kick a** speakers but bit overpriced for my liking, i say go for the infinity, but thats just me, listen to em both, watever sounds good to u, get em to hook it up the the amp ure gonna use with it as well, power makes a big difference

Hertz and the lower couple of series of Focal are that price range and i would look at them. From memory the Hertz are around $250 - $280 and sound very nice for the money.

Don't think i have heard of hertz, do you know any shops around SE Melb that stock them? Ok so looks like i'll just go down and listen to the focals, infinity, JL, pioneer and hertz if i can find them to see which i like best.

EDIT: Can anyone also recommend any 6" 2 or 3 ways to go in the stock parcel sheld position as rear fill, probably up to $100 reasonable for something like that? I already have a 12" sub and 4ch amp so i just need the speakers to complete it and i'll be happy for the time being :)

I have used JBL as rear fill with some good effect. They have a nice strong midrange and highs, low end response is down a little but they are cheap and with a sub it doesn't matter.

They will also handle a fair bit of power.

haven't heard good reports about the hertz, they sound good but apparantly have a pretty high failure rate. mate of mine had a set in his VS and managed to break them, and about the same time his mates did too. was covered by warranty but he only had that set for about 4 months!

Best advice is to go around and have a good look and listen to the differnt brands and work out which sounds best to you then negoticate on the price

But im pretty biased i think the alpine type S series splits are pretty decent, and good price too.

I've just fitted a set of Eclipse splits in my AU. Over your $400 limit though ($460) but I think there worth the extra bucks I paid.
